In their interactions with mere mortals they lack condescension, and their verbiage is wholly devoid of patronising remarks that do not leave everyone else feeling humiliated; and despite knowing everything about everthing they are reluctant to boast about their obvious and pervasive omniscience.
All joking aside, really smart people know how to adjust appropriately to every social situation and cultural nuance; and only publicly articulate their autodidactically acquired knowledge and experience in very rare circumstances |

There is no subtle sign, smart people make a point of letting you know they’re smart. They put letters after their name and everything. Alternatively, the baseline is people who know the difference between their they’re and there, and to too and two |

"Smart blokes know two things:
1) the right order to do sex to women (lips, tits, minge, fartpipe)
I am literally fucking speechless at this "
Like you needed confirmation I’m a real catch!! And a wordsmith in the language of love. |

Know how to give their opinion on here in a humble way rather than writing it like it’s a fact.
The more you know the less you need to show and all that. |

Smartness or intelligence is merely one trait that is manifested by a vast range of different types of people; smart people acquire information very rapidly and accurately; and then crucially they know how to use that info to achieve their objective depending on their values; the entrepreneur will use it to build wealth; the humanitarian will use it to assist others; the psychopath will use it to hurt others, as they were hurt too; and so on.
In summation, really smart people know how to turn circumstances to their advantage, because they have a deep understanding of cause and effect, etc. |

They listen more than they speak. I’ve also noticed most intelligent people don’t talk over others and wait for their opportunity to offer something to the conversation |

"They know the difference between….
your and you’re.
Not to mention their, there and they’re .
Those people tend to be more belittling than smart.
"
Only if they publicly point out peoples inadvertent errors. That’s belittling. |

Haha really? I was going to "grammar police" you then thought... Are you having me on?
A smart woman on Fab should focus on compliments about how fit you are instead! Phowar... Wanna shag? |

It is something that I find far more appealing than physical appearance, although that does help to a certain extent too.
Any hint of text type talk is the obvious give away I find ie wot u up 2?
I rarely encounter this here on fab but more on dating sites. |

In my experience the smartest people understand cause and effect. You can usually tell a smart person by the way they consistently ask insightful questions - they are trying to find the underlying principles of the problem they are facing and then they will use that knowledge to work out the implications of how to deal with it |

Empty Vessels make the most noise = Stupid people talk all the time as if they have all the answers. = they are the 'unsmart' ones. |

"From the above responses, it is clear that we are not thinking in terms of how they dress or are groomed.
I was expecting some posts along those lines. "
Do you think smartness can be expressed sartorially? |

Well, it is one of the recognised uses of the word smart, but obviously not the 'go to' version for Fab forumites! |

This is a recognised and well-researched phenomenon called:
The Dunning-Kruger Effect.
The essence of it is that unskilled or unintelligent people tend to have a very high, but inaccurate view of their ability and skill but skilled, educated and intelligent people behave in the opposite fashion. |

This post only encourages people to try and show strangers how clever they think they are.
I knew a lady who was loved by all and a very clever woman but when i was helping her with some jobs round the house i was explaining how her drill had a hammer function she actually thought she could use it to drive nails into walls. |

Surely a lot of us are smart in different ways.
I’m smart, I have a good education a good job blah blah but can I do anything practical like hell I can.
Is smart just being academic ? We all bring different things to the table. |

There's all manner of smart though - I have worked with a group of people that had PHDs coming out their ears, not an ounce of common sense amongst them. I've also worked with knuckle dragging thug types that had wordly insights that would astound you.
Bad Bitch can't spell for toffee and knows very little in the way of "big words" but her emotional intelligence is the best I've ever come across.
FWIW quite "smart" people can laugh at those laughing at them without the laugher even knowing the joke is actually on them ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"They’re left handed."
I won't argue with that. I suspect that, because we live in a predominantly right handed world, left handed people are more likely to develop ambidextrous skills, through necessity, than right handers. |

That’s true. Also I’ve never met a thick left handed person. |

Intelligence, being smart or having abilities is not something that is fixed and can never be changed.
The work by a researcher called, I think, Carol Dweck, advocates a mindset that can be developed and improved, and thus become more productive over time and much more capable of solving problems, whether personal or societal. |

That's the essence of a good team; very different people bring a wide range of skills, abilities and perspectives to the table.
This was illustrated in a 1960 film called League of Gentlemen which is a robbery caper, but could easily be used as a tool to educate students about the need to have a team, as well as a nit-picker who highlights the flaws, gaps and lacunae! |

The smart person without boasting or bragging does invest an enormous amount of time in personal development in order to make themselves a happier and more productive person who by obvioysly being more attractive to others can achieve their life objectives, including this avocation. |
