Hot Food Cinema Policy

When it comes to this cinema policy that prohibits hot food from outside establishments (like KFC or Mcdonald's for example), I feel sorry for employees that have to deal with customers that get pissy when they're told they can't eat their food in the screen.

Either the customers don't know or just don't care about this policy. Heck, they would even sneak hot food in bags which just shows they don't care.

Sometimes I think, why do cinema employees like me even bother upholding this policy if customers won't abide by it?

Might as well scrap the policy altogether and let these entitled idiots eat whatever they want.

They should ban all food and drink in cinemas. The smell is disgusting and the noise is annoying.

If people can't cope with sitting quietly and not eating for 2 hours..... it's ridiculous.

I agree. There were times where I thought it should be against the law to bring in hot food into cinemas.

We go to the local Everyman cinema that serves hot food and delivers it to your seats (along with cocktails). It comes on a plate and tray, is easily hidden away when you’ve finished eating and the trays are collected once everyone has gone (by well trained mice I imagine).

Does that include the rancid hotdogs that big cinema chains sell in their foyers or is that different? My assumption is the hot food ban has always had slightly self-interested roots....

Yes I'd ban those too.

They need the money from food and drink to stay in business though.

When I say entitled idiots, I meant some customers in general. I know not all customers are idiots and if they have snacks that fit their needs, that's fine.

In my view, there should be somewhere within the cinema where you can eat, that could be before , during the interval or after the film.

Under no circumstances should there be eating and drinking whilst watching the film.

I want to listen to the dialogue, not some tosser slurping and munching three rows away.

Shame we can't go 2 hours without having a feed isn't it? Explains our unhealthy relationship with our weight though.

I think we should have people line up to sit silently, to contemplate the meaning of life and what they can do to stop wasting time. Obviously this silent contemplation is best done on an empty stomach, nil by mouth and sat on the cold, hard floor

Last time I went to the cinema some greedy oik had piled his food crap onto my pre booked seat, the filthy looks he was giving me as I made him move all his detritus was death inducing.

Just move it without the attitude, I even gave him a baby wipe to wipe down where his greasy detritus had been. Absolutely no need for it

Oh my days that is so weird!!

I’m quite bad as I do like a snack and when I was a kid my parents would give me and my siblings grapes/soft sweeties in with us. Occasionally we would have money for popcorn. Generally if I have food in the cinema I would eat it during the commercials as I feel so bad if the movie was on and I was rustling!

I actually haven’t been to the cinema in forever though!

I went to our local cinema in Oxted recently for the first time in years. It now has two seater sofas rather than single seats and a waiter/waitress service bringing food directly to your seat. All sounds fine apart from the first 30 mins or so was constant interruption with burgers and chips being brought to people's seats and consumed during the film. Not my thing so I won't be going back there.

You lot need to go to a decent cinema with some dolby, how are you hearing people 3 rows away eating.

One of life's pleasures I watching a film with some popcorn and snacks. I wouldn't have a full meal in there though.

I like eating while watching a film. It’s part of the experience of going to the cinema for me.

Cinemas sell the food so I buy it and eat it during the movie.

Of course I could go 2 hours without food and I regularly do but I enjoy my popcorn and snacks while watching a movie so il continue to do so.

I have pretty much stopped going to the cinema as I cant stand sitting next to other people eating food and making so much noise during a movie...

Just when you think surely they must have finished eating now no another bag of what ever is opened and the rustling continues...

It's like being tortured...maybe I'm being a bit dramatic there!

Unless all food is banned at cinemas I won't be going back....

I don't think there is any need for food eaten inside the auditorium apart from the odd maltesers or Werthers original or the little tub of ice cream the used to sell in the interval. Why would anyone need to munch on a KFC whilst watching a film is beyond me but each to their own.

If cinemas didnt charge an absolute fortune for their food, maybe people wouldn't want to bring in their own. The cinema i go to is a very short walk away from Asda, do you imagine i am going to pay stupidly ridiculous money for my Peanut M&M's and a drink in the cinema when i can just pay stupid money in Asda... of course not

I see no reason to visit the cinema. I can get the same story on a flatscreen at home as a screen the size of a football field.

Football-field sized screens don't impress me nor does concert-level sound.

I don't miss the ticket prices, or food prices either.

Pause when I want.

Eat what I like.

I just don't find cinemas "exciting". Are they supposed to be ? Sorry !

The nature of how you eat would be the determining factor.

It is perfectly possible to eat and drink and enjoy the film in a considerate manner.

Unfortunately many don’t,

They make excessively loud noise when eating and drinking and make no effort to not impact the cinema experience of others.

If you are one of the considerate ones that is good, may others follow your example.
