Why can't they just answer the fucking phone !?

Even my bank doesn't have a phone anymore and if I eventually get through to someone for something else I'm connected to someone from a country where they can't even speak English ffs

I had to terminate a phone call from a Vodafone call centre operative because I couldn’t understand them, it was getting awkward having to ask them to repeat things several times and I still wasn’t quite sure what they said.

They were geordie.

True story.

Same here, was not Geordie but a UK based dialect....

Tell me about it. I wanted to complain to Evri about them not delivering my parcels but it's impossible to get to speak to anyone. Bloody frustrating is what it is.

because they are heading for internet for everything, they just dont realise how frustrating using the internet is and how angry it gets you, trying to do a simple task takes many many attempts and now the introduction of the code sent to your email or your phone has been introduced. They don't want you to phone them that means they have to have loads of staff to answer phones, the fewer people they need to employ the better and its only going to get worse

Can't speak English, or you can't understand their accent?

Because its less efficient to have one person tied up on a phone call dealing with a single customer than it is to have them deal with multiple issues sent in via email or an online form.

That was what I was thinking tbh - if they work for a British company, they must have some language competence - but maybe their accent is harder to understand.

Err I prefer text or email then I can respond quickly but when it's safe for me to do so. Also means I can triage the contact and I have an audit trail so I'm less likely to forget. A phonecall always happens when I can't sensibly answer and trawling through voicemail is tedious

Do they answer the phone when you call them ? Do they reply to an email when you email them?

I couldn't agree with you more. Everything has become so impersonal now and speaking to someone who speaks broken English is just a nightmare as I just cannot understand what they're saying x

I quite like being stuck on hold and seeing how many chores I can get done before they answer. It's quite motivating. Can't do that quite so well with emails.

I'm also real good at typos, at least a call means saying things and not having to worry about typos.

Emails suck when it's something you need quicker than their lead time for replying.

It is really awkward when you can't understand what they are saying though. I always feel awful asking them to repeat. Mind you alexa seems to suggest I don't speak English either

I had a bath today while I was on hold to the Out of hours hub. They answered almost dead on the hour of waiting.
