Fear not, the hippies still have a profound place in modern culture, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Free-spirited, heart-centered, and passionate, hippies help to promote a more loving, conscious way of living, in peace and harmony with all living things.

This is a news story about NATO, pushed by the US, complaining that the UK wouldn't sufficiently play it's part in a Continental European based World War.
It's an effort by the US to have the UK government pledge more of our GDP to spending on defence.
I wouldn't place too much faith in this actually meaning much, it's something the US whinges about every couple of years. |

A former leading US general, a big ally of Trump, started all this when the Donald was president.
Now he's bringing it up again on US political TV programmes, demanding that European nations, including the UK, pledge an extra 1.5% of their GDP in order to offer more resistance to Russia.
It's all part of the build up of Trump's next run for the Republican Party nomination, he doesn't like the UK's gradual movement towards a "defence first" armed
forces.....which is line with any future Labour government long term plan.
An end to sending our young men to fight and die needlessly in ridiculous wars in places like Afghanistan. |

"That the army can't defend the country because they given away their arms to Ukraine."
Predictable. Days of being able to defend ourselves are long since over. Sleep walked our way into it. Still I'm sure Ukraine would return the favour. Tbh though the damage to the economy and people from the rampant profiteering using war as an excuse is more harmful right now. |

Was that what they said before most conflicts? There are plenty of existential threats. Not being prepared (look at the criticism about how covid unfolded) is not an excuse. |

Are you really saying that helping Ukraine defend itself against Russia is 'stoopid'-it seems you're not too sure about the word stupid, so just have a quick look in a mirror then you'll have a whole better grasp of the word.
Have you seen how far Russia has advanced in its attack? I'll tell you - not very far. So they have to do a whole lot more than just 'finish the job'.
500,000 poorly trained, equipped, supplied, and re-supplied men (not professional soldiers) won't get them much further.
In terms of traditional war, I doubt anyone's going to attack us anytime soon. |

Correct.
The true story is that we have been down-rated and we are no longer rated as a country with a major military force.
This is factual and the USA stated this months back.
We have 227 tanks, 14 of which we are sending to Ukraine.
We have limited armed forces personnel
One aircraft carrier and limited air defence due to continued cut backs.
Perhaps the youth of today should enlist in our armed forces to make men of themselves instead of the increasing numbers of snowflakes and woke communities we have today.
We obviously also have our nuclear arsenal but if it comes to using that then we might as well all say goodbye |

Im sure respect would be shown if respect was given.
You pretty much just wrote off a generation as woke and snowflake.
The British Military is a professional army. We dont want conscripts or people who dont want to be there.
And how can you judge someone to be an embarrassment or a coward from a single statement??
You know absolutely nothing about them.
And i doubt they're not too bothered about such comments from someone like you.
Having seen numerous comments from yourself on other threads, however, your character is easy to judge. |

At just 76,000 strong, the British army is less than half the size it was back in 1990 and the smallest it has been since Napoleonic times. The force is due to shrink even further to 73,000 under current plans that will be implemented unless new money is found. |

Its good to have the freedom to air your opinions on an open forum but while you do you should consider a quote from an american Veteran and be thankful for it:
“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.” |

The Challenger 2’s we’ve sent have come from storage, the AT missiles also from stock and is replenished accordingly.
Also, an Army that’s well disciplined, well trained and well equipped will smash an army many times it size. Russia is learning this the hard way, China is watching this in action.
Make no doubt though, if things escalate we’ll be called up and made ready to fight. |

"That the army can't defend the country because they given away their arms to Ukraine."
To a certain extent that is defending the Country, at least in terms of the actual active aggression going on in our Europe right now. Ukraine's resistance is blocking Russia's expansion into Europe and has already drained Russia's military force to the extent its no longer a credible military threat to other European States. Russia is smashing it's self against a wall and its in our intrest that wall stands.
But it's highlighted what the long term deficiencies with regards to fighting a protective conventional large scale war we have. The fruits of living in a stable and peaceful continent and a military vision based of light expeditionary warfare. That bubble of peace, stability and light expedition warfare has been shattered by Putin. Its time to look at defense, defense spending and ramping up the defense military complex to cope with the threat in Ukraine and future large sale threats. To be fair our defense spending still very high and I think there is also a need to look at not just how much we spend but also can we spend it smarter.
But the fact still remains that if you triage threats, Russia's aggression in Ukraine is the immediate threat. But we have been caught with our pants down and we need to re-arm, restock, recruit and reconfigure without delay. |

"Wouldn't necessarily worry as they'd (Putin) have to try get through the rest of Europe first before we might need tanks Having yet tanks and actual ones are 2 different entities. Having them and not needing them is worse then needed and not having."
I definitely agree with you, I'm an avid military nerd .. but he can't beat Ukraine let alone nato, especially with Poland buying 1000 main battle tanks from south Korea that are as good or slightly better than the leopard 2, and his best tanks being the t90 can be taken out with a couple or javelins and his t14 armata tanks proven don't work even to be on parade |

NATO are using the Ukraine conflict to test Russian military capability, without having to go to war with them in order to find out.
I should imagine that leading NATO figures are more than happy with what they are seeing on a day to day basis, Russia has proven to be a far weaker threat to the West than China at this time.

"That the army can't defend the country because they given away their arms to Ukraine."
I didn't really expect the army to defend us from a nuclear attack, but I'm sure this is still worthy news and not just silly fear-mongering media hype. |

" NATO is focusing on Attrition with Russia. Destroy their military machine so they can concentrate on greater threats. It been said by multiple nations what the goal is with Russia. Lessons learned from WW2 and Korean wars are being utilized. Overwhelming firepower against waves of cannon fodder. 1 doctrine against the other. |

Yeah they have brought so much from south Korea tank artillery launchers so really I think the UK should prioritise air force at the moment as Poland seem to be concentrating on ground forces even if we make more jets or buy them from USA |

Both aircraft and missile systems a huge advantage. |

"People who watch the news know and believe what they are told to .. that Putin is this terrorist.. tell me why Gadaffi died ? Tell me why Sadam died"
Gadaffi died because his own people killed and Saddam died because he was stupid enough not to leave his country before he got caught .both died because the west decied that after decades of accepting both men that they could go into to depos them .and in turn fuck up both country as they no plan for afterwards . |

"Why worry about wars the next virus outbreak will probably wipe out millions more and so on until? "
I think I would rather take my chances with a pandemic than months being bombarded by Russian or Chinese artillery |

And those that get their news from YouTube and Rumble know and believe what they are told by paranoid schizophrenics and Russian agents…. Neither know all the truth about anything but one group know and believe a lot less truth than the other |

Except NATO have no wish to expand an empire and invade Russia! NATO are a defensive alliance, Russia is an imperialist aggressor with serious expansion plans! |

The war in Ukraine has exposed the depth of corruption in the Russian system which has allowed gangsters to plunder their economy almost unchecked for the past 30 years.
Fake equipment, badly maintained equipment, poorly trained soldiers, airmen and Sailors it beggars belief. The Russian military is no match for NATO and indeed if Russia were not a nuclear power the war in Ukraine would be long over by now.
With the state of the Russian military evident from their disastrous attempt to take kiev one must wonder at the state of their Nuclear Arsenal. What corners have been cut in its care and maintenance over the years. |
