Why do they offer condemned prisoners a last meal? I don't get that at all.
If I'm having a stressful day I tend to not fancy anything to eat so if I was facing execution and someone offered me a last meal I'd probably want to deck the twat for being such an insensitive wanker.
Plus I wouldn't wanna shit meself just before they flick the switch! |

Tennessee convict Philip Workman requested that pizza be distributed to the homeless in Nashville. (Prison officials denied his request, but local groups passed out pizza in his honor.) 9th May 2007. |

Offering, and accepting, food is a sign of friendship and is supposed to show the condemned person that the prison and prison staff aren't the ones executing him (her); rather that they're acting for, and on behalf of the state and have no choice regarding what they're about to do. |

I hope I do not end up in prison!
My last meal will be something along the line of:
Starter is either pan-fried fois gras with caramelised fruit or snails in garlic butter
Main course is either steak tartare or confit de canard
Dessert is either creme brulee or pistachio and hazelnut icecream
Wash down with lashing of red wine!

So you're telling me that prison officers who CHOOSE to work in a place where condemned men and women are to be executed regard these scumbags as 'friends'. They are on death row for a bloody good reason and I see nothing to be gained by offering them anything before they die - least of all, compassion & friendship. |

Wishy mate, its an ancient tradition, goes back to times when the "guards" were afraid that the spirits of the executed prisoners would come back and haunt them and their families for eternity, so they introduced this " acceptance of a meal" as a public show that the condemned man wouldnt hold bad feelings for the men involved with the execution, I dont think anyone would have been an executioner without this "safety net" years ago.
Like many traditions it doesn't make much sense now |

My understanding is that in Texas they move the prisoners from the Polunsky Unit to the Huntsville Unit before the execution that way those who are carrying out the execution dont "know" the person the same way as those who work in the Polunsky Unit would. Would imagine given the length of time spent on death row those who work there would find it hard not to get to know the condemed hence the reason for the move before execution. |

"250g of twiglets dipped thickly in marmite "
This is absolutely genuine..... anyone here got a guilty concience?
In the paper, there is a guy who keeps robbing shops.... he strolls in, walks round...... and strips the shelves of...... wait for it......... Marmite!!!
He even went back to one the following day to get two jars he dropped the day before!!!!
One shop has even stopped stocking it cos he's robbed them so many times!!!
Now, I have to say I am partial to marmite, but WTF? |

I think a nice home made crusty loaf, lashings of butter, a freshly cooked lobster and some balsamic vinegar... then a pear and frangipani tart. All washed down with some champagne. Hits the spot every time for me. xxx |
