…. Thought I’d start it the night before!!
Anyway… I can honestly say this may be the best 6n tournament in quite a while
Ireland now world number 1, France the defending champions, England wales and Scotland can all be hit and miss, and I would argue that Italy had the the best autumn international series of any of them! They played some awesome stuff
So…. Who wins? Who ends up with the wooden spoon
I think Ireland win…. Just because the Ireland France game is in Dublin… but antoine DuPoint may be the best player on the planet at the moment!!
And I can see Italy again winning one |

France for the slam for me, pushed hard by Wales with the gatland affect.
Wooden spoon possibly Scotland, as I fancy Italy to carry from autumn. |

My head says Ireland but my heart says England will pull it out of the bag.
As usual I'll be working for most games so will be avoiding the forums and you bastards like the plague on match days, so I don't see any final scores before I get to watch on catch up....

Fabio, I have come and gone off this site over the years and yet you remain one of the constants here. I would’ve have compared you the HMQ unfortunately she left our mortal coil a few months back.
Anyway, England for the title, then Ireland and France. I can’t see France winning a grand slam again, and Ireland aren’t consistent, but have the edge over France. England have the bouncbackability with Jones doing one. I like Borthwick’s outlook: done amazing Leicester, be a fool not to put a tenner on England to win it.
I’ve never been right and Scotland will have the Calcutta tomorrow! |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
All very tight this year and yes I agree it’s the most competitive season there’s ever been.
I’d like to see England play well under the new direction but I’m not expecting miracles. A second or third place tournament would be acceptable with good performances.
I don’t think the Welsh Gatland factor will be telling, I’d expect them to be competitive but lose three games. I still love the French brand of rugby and fully expect them to do the slam.
I don’t like talking about the Irish with England rugby’s greatest export at the helm… my hero in the 13 man code and then to adapt so well to union and understand enough to earn one of the biggest jobs in the game says everything.
They’ve got a great chance.
Excited for tomorrow |

Indeed, a good 6N in prospect in a WC year. Ireland and France are the form teams, but all the others can win on the day. From my perspective, Wales under Gatland could surprise. He's a master tactician and focussed on physicality. The 6N might be too early, but by WC we'll be in contention. |

Much as I'd love an Ireland Slam, I fear the French are just too good. Today's performance where we bullied Welsh team that were afraid to do anything in the first half, but struggled against them in the 2nd hasn't changed my mind.
France have been annoyingly consistent of late; you have a pretty good idea of which French team is turning up, which goes against all tradition... |

But van de merwe has been an absolute stalwart! What a try! |

The sport is desperately trying to do more about brain injuries. That means not allowing these types of contact. It WAS a bad tackle, too high and without wrapping his right arm, his intention was obviously a big HIT rather than a tackle. |

He wrapped he hit chest and arm it was that force that caused the head movement |

Hir right arm was straight down and he was leading with his shoulder. There was NO attempt to wrap the right arm at all, there was also no attempt to reduce the hight of the contact. There was never any attempt to tackle only to collide. It probably should have been a red rather than a yellow, |

Doesn't matter. He was standing up and made contact shoulder to head. Initial point of contact is irrelevant. That's a card these days. I'm not convinced by Barnes's "low degree of danger" either; it was very close to a red to me. |
