I'm about the least visual person I know.
I'm not sure it's a focus on words instead. Everything I think is sensation and emotion, forcing it into words comes only because that's the only method of expression in a lot of situations. |

I have performed this experiment, the viewing room behind a 2 way mirror off a room where a really hot 3some was on - but no noise. Then later blindfolded and listen to the sounds of moaning, squelching and ball-slapping.
I can tell you I had a much, much stronger hard on from listening. |

I think maybe it's the emotion it provokes in the situation, words or sights alone may not do much but it only takes one thing to push that emotional trigger then you can gain a real connection with someone. |

"A combination of both. I need to see pictures sometimes as I can't visualise a scene from words
you have not had the words written for you x "
I have and I write myself but if I'm reading a book I can't envisage a landscape for instance, from a written description |

It sounds like you may have aphantasia as I do. No minds eye. |

Possibly. I don't see images as such but I can imagine a scene in words in my head. |

I might take a look. I didn't even realise it was a thing until someone mentioned it on here, I thought everyone was the same. It does explain why I can't visualise a room layout until it's actually drawn on paper for me. |

I only found out recently, I’ve also discovered I have SDAM so no autobiographical memory either. Which explains I don’t remember much. My brain is like a computer without a monitor. I have a lot of facts but no way to see them. |

Words are my preferred medium. I can construct what I want to say much more effectively using words. I can plan their impact, their meaning and their structure and placement to support what I want to say.
I cannot do that with voice.
Thought however is hyper-visualised. I think in imagery. It's hard to explain but if you tell me to think of an apple, I will conjure an exquisitely detailed image of an apple, with blemishes on the skin, dew where it has been freshly picked on a lightly-misted morning, a small tear where a curious baby starling pecked it to investigate its food potential. And by this point, I'm salivating and tasting the apple.
It's worse when I am trying to sleep as the hyper-visualisation goes in to overdrive.
Some folks count sheep.
I count passengers on a platform and each one has to be mentally e-fitted down to the last detail. It's flipping annoying. |
