That is exactly what he was doing. He has also now sold the rights to his appearance or something, so he can used digitally in movies I think. It is more complicated than that I think but it's the general idea.
But yes, he is has been doing movies/acting for himself the past couple of years. |

My nr.1 007 would be no other than "Sean Connery", to me he is considered to be the best James Bond of all time. His legendary run as 007 features many of its most iconic moments. The best by far.
My 2nd fav. would be Roger Moore in Live & Let Die.
