What feels like a scam but is completely legal

Getting out of bed and just living.
It's just one big scam .
It feels like medieval times when the poor where taxed into extreme poverty whilst the rich land owners got fat and fornicated got gout and syphilis.
We need a modern day Robin Hood.

Insurance of any kind.
But hiring a car these days forcing to get the extra excess cover...
Life insurance
House insurance building and contents.
Car insurance.
Pet insurance.
Holiday insurance.
Extended warranty insurance.
Gap insurance.
Critical illness cover.....
You can go on and on, fact is rich folks don't need pretty much all of these as if shit goes wrong they can pay.
We common folks are given the scare tactics, then when you do try to claim the old small print kicks in.
Legalised theft. |

"AND.....
When I pay by phone in the local car park it costs 20p more than using the machine.
Explain that !"
I presume the extra is because you didn’t choose the turn off the option for a “reminder” message. They set it to default and you need to disable it to avoid the extra charge. |

Car insurance. It goes up every year and when I question them, they always ask me if I've been quoted a better price for them to beat. Why can't they just give me the best price!

"Paying to print out your own concert tickets"
This!!! Plus a booking fee.
If you can't buy it without a booking fee, then surely it's part of the price?

"Paying tax on pension contributions
And then paying tax when you draw the actual pension.
It feels criminal?! "
What!!!
I thought your pension contribution was taken before your tax, so in effect you earned slightly less and saved a few pence in tax?
Rip off! |

Hot take :
It is, pension deductions are pre tax but then you pay the income tax on it at a later date when you draw it down
Unless you are paying in so much to your pension that you have breached the upper limit, in which case you should be taxed, because lets be honest that would just be yet another a loophole for the rich to avoid income tax |

"Paying £1.99 to take my own money out of the cash machine "
Another unpopular opinion : it costs money to run those machines , power them, fill them, count them, maintain them. Most aren’t even owned by banks. And you pay for the convenience of it being at the end of your street 24/7 rather than having to go to a branch between 9-4 during the week.
I hate paying it myself but i can totally see why these businesses charge |

If there was no buy to let, people that currently rent, would be able to afford to buy their own places. |

Stamp duty on buying a house
WTF is being stamped and why does it cost way more to stamp whatever it is for a £500k property over a £100k property...its just the government taking a slice out of any potential profit you might make when you sell it (do they give you a refund if you lose money? do they fuck!)

Concert tickets.
Artists/bands charging tons for tickets.
And all the added fees on top of the ticket price.
If you want to go to a sporting event, like football, you're told the entire ticket price upfront and that's that. If you want to go to a concert there's the ticket price, more expensive the closer you are to the stage, and the booking fee, and the venue fee, and the person pressing the button fee, and the looking at tickets fee, breathing fee etc |

Its not usually the bands / artists charging that much. Its the promoters and venues , but yes would it really hurt to just provide a price and thats it
Also booking fee per ticket rather than order is a joke , same admin either way |

Exactly. If you have been paying tax before pension contributions are reduced, you have a right to claim money back from HMRC for up to 4 or 6 years back, not sure whether it’s 4 or 6 years but you should look into it. |

Yeah, they tax you for the privilege of buying a house and then when you decide to sell it, they take a share of the property value increase too! Pay when you buy and pay when you sell.
When you look at it closely, you feel like it’s some kind of mafia operations. Lol |

Parking fines. I've had many and sometimes for only pulling over to read a sign. The time it takes me to read the sign about parking is enough for the camera to send me a fine in the post.

Depends what you are measuring. Effective tax rate (total tax paid over total tax earned) lower paid workers have a higher effective rate usually
But yes as a high earner after a certain point if you get a pay rise you will likely see less than half of it after tax , Ni, pension |

I've just seen BlackbeltBarrister on Youtube.
"In order to accept the agreement of being in said carpark you need to know the terms and conditions. Being denied time to read these terms and conditions are unfair and can, nay should be challenged as denial of the right to exercise the right to decline this agreement (that is park here pay the fees, break those rules pay the fine/charges),".
Basically they are screwing you by not offering a cooling off period, ie time to read, decide and leave.
This needs a change in the law. Challenge it.
