I [Mike] was made redundant back in November 2008, this put a dampner on Christmas and the then arrival of our Twins in January. I was out of work for 11months however it does seem noticable that the market of employment is starting to hum a new tune, with that we wish you all the best and a swift recovery into the working world! |

Yep I'm looking at redundancy in the very near future.
Unfortunately because I've been there less than 2 years I won't get a payout, so I'm looking to go as soon as I find something else rather than wait til the bitter end |

i was made redundant quite a few years ago .I didnt get a huge payout but saw it as an opportunity to look at my life ..Realised i had transferable skills (accounts professional not an accountant !)and decided to go self employed ... no one will ever make me redundant again .Some times setbacks give u a bigger opportunity than you expect ,but its always tough especially when you are on your own !!
Start thinking about your future now is my advice and get as much help from the company making you redundant as you can ....Take care ... |

i was made redundent around 12 months ago but to be honest it happens a lot in my industry so it was not the first time in my life. it did take me about 9 months to find another one but hey i got all my diy done and got to be a house husband for a bit. Good luck in finding something else to earn a few quid. steve xx |

Sympathies Peaches.
I was put on notice a few months back and now officially have to the end of the year before I am out.
But.. I am getting a reasonable payment so am better off than some.
Its the uncertainty that I found the worst, the not knowing when/if the axe will fall and not being able to plan anything.
All I can sugest is that if your job offers a payment worth hanging on for, grit your teeth and hold on, but if not, do your best to get out asap.
You will find unfortunately that when companies down size the result is very rarely a good working environment, even if you get to stay!
I wish you the all the best though, and I do understand as the is the 4th time for me in 20 years!

Sorry to hear your news but hope things work out for you.
A wee something a friend said to me a few years ago when I lost a significant chunk of my income:
""Sometimes, a door can't open before another closes""! |

Thanks for all the replies.
I work for staffs county council and although i will have to move on.
I prefer that than dealing with the changes that are afoot.
I will get a decent payout. but i need to sort out re benefits and all the other crap that comes with it.
thanks all |

been unemployed for a few months myself, and have to say that it isn't the greatest of things, and really puts a damper on your swing life too, the lack of the folding makes traveling to meet's almost impossible, who ever thought a person can live on £64.50 a week must be living in the 1940s |

I was made redundant back in january, i used to work for ex's company and when the divorce went through they got rid of me lol. I did the same thing and went back to college and now im training to be an acupuncturist, something i always wanted to do. Must admit they dont make it easy to get benefits, my 6 months of unemployment are up and now they are means testing to see if im still eligible. Seems unfair that after years of paying national insurance you have to prove you deserve unemployment pay!! |
