Weird and Awesome TV from your childhood
Jump to: Newest in thread
Been a 70s child there was numerous weird kids TV shows, but for me I cannot remember anything more surreal and low budget than Fingermouse.
Awesome definitely belonged to Pitkins with Hartley Hare et Al.

The cartoons were epic. An updated Odyssey set in space called Ulysses 2000 or something. And the utterly majestic Cities of Gold, clocking in at over 96 million episodes.
Oh, and Knightmare! The relish with which Treguard would watch a child (virtually) be sliced into cubes by whirling blades, or tumble off a precipice. |

Just to be pedantic, it was called Ulysses 31. |

Not pedantic at all - thank you. It was bugging me.
Dogtanian. Round the world in 80 days, with Phileas Dog."

Hartley Hare used to freak the shit out of me as a kid he looked so creepy.
My favourites were Jamie and his magic torch, Chorlton and the wheelies and Roobarb and Custard |

"Ulysses 2000 was awesome, there was also a decent series made to sell toys called Starcom: The US Space Force. Also Jayce and the Wheeled Warrior's."
I had a Ulysses toy, the spaceship ufo thing and a red robot.
Jayce and the wheeled warriors was brilliant! Still not seen the ending! |

True story. At school in biology when we dissected a mouse, I stuck its head on my finger and did a good finger mouse impression!
Ah the joys of youth! |

I remember this anime that was shown on CITV when I was a kid called Ox Tales. I would always enjoy watching that show just to keep an eye out for the laughing mole that pops up everytime something funny happens lol.
Good times |

Found myself randomly singing the theme to Jamie and the magic torch at work the other day, kick ass opening.

Thank you so much.
I also had a fear of pylons as a kid, and it's taken me years to get over it. I've been wondering for decades what that TV series was and I'm so happy to find out.
Thank you again. |

Wasn't until my early teenage years but Are you Afraid of the Dark was fucking amazing, and some of the tales told were weird as shit. Hell some of them straight up creepy for the target audience. |

In the awesome category, "Do not adjust your set" a sketch show intended for kids but popular with adults too. Many of the cast went on to very successful careers - David Jason, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Eric Idle |

Weird and wonderful fact: the theme "song" lyrics to Defenders of the Earth was written by Stan Lee.
Though the best line in a TV theme has got to be "Why don't you just switch off your television set and go and do something less boring instead?"
Anyone remembering the next line wins a No-Prize. |

Round the Twist always had something mental going on.
Eerie, Indiana which was like a kids version of X Files mixed with Twin Peaks.
Pete and Pete too if anyone remembers that |

I was born in UK 1971, who remembers a 1974 ITV cartoon called “Simon in the land of Chalk Drawings” I only vaguely remember the cartoon however the theme music is fresh in my mind like it was yesterday |

"Used to like The Littlest Hobo, lovely dog.
Great tune"
Always loved the littlest hobo theme, sometime back I can across an album “Honeyroot - The sun will come” there’s a track on that album called Freeway, it just got me reminiscing about hobo the same type of vibe. |

Loved this program, especially the theme tune "
Have you ever, ever felt like this. When strange things happen are you going round the twist.
Least singing that has got rid of my Littlest Hobo theme tune ear worm. |

It started with "you know my name is Simon and the things I draw come true" but I can't remember any more. |

Can’t believe on a thread started about weird old kids shows the following haven’t been mentioned :
Sapphire and Steele - utterly bizarre surreal show about time travelling sci fi detectives/agents LOVED it!
Will o the wisp with the sublime Kenneth Williams doing voice work
The adventure game - my sister and I used to play the vortex at home driving mum nuts as we climbed all over the furniture cos the floor was the vortex and if you touched it you got evaporated! |

There were a couple of episodes of Dramarama that were utterly messed up and scarred me for life.
One involved a giant mouth that was luring people into this Wierd utopia with a pretty woman and guys in masks on an escalator all looking happy but The 'Mouth' turned out to be this decaying hell scape. Or maybe I was just on too many bad 'e' number sweeties?
Or there was one where a kid's mirror reflection moves on its own and ends up replacing him and the kid gets trapped screaming in the mirror at the end.
Failing that, Moon dial, children of green know, (I was a sensitive child OK?)
