What do you miss from the 80s?
Jump to: Newest in thread
The 80s were the best decade.
Weather was better, none of this crazyness going on in the World.
Food seemed better with all these new foods.
TV was better...Minder, Benny Hill, Generation Game, 321, Grange Hill ,Blue Peter. Saturday Morning tv Swap Shop,Tiswas etc.

Pretty much everything.
Definitely the music.
Plus, there was no internet. I love it but I don't love all the caustic people on it. Full of hatred for the things they disagree with, and at the same time trying to brainwash others into their way of thinking. |

And I used the word 'thinking' quite wrongly |

I don't miss not having so called social media influncers (God, I hate that term), and Youtube 'celebs' who think their likes/disikes and opinions matter. |

Easy care free days, life was far less serious than it is now.
Jeez ..there's so much more anger and general moaning about anything and everything these days.
Back then, it was work hard and play hard ... but more importantly people smiled and laughed more.

Did they?
I remember, recession, strike's ,mass unemployment, huge interest rate increases, Thatchers Britain.
Selling off of nationalised companies, mining industry decimated, steel industry decimated, building trade changed forever with the loss of many many thousands of jobs and Rick Astley. |

One things for sure, didn't have people carrying knives, guns and d upto their eyeballs just to step outside their front door....jeez.
The worst you heard in a town centre bar would be a glass or bottle smashing... now it's like a scene from a western... oh yes...life is much much friendlier, fun and easier these days. |

Exactly....still loads of moaning and anger back then.
But no social media to broadcast all their woes to the world. |

"Ringing the doctor's surgery and getting an appointment the same day.
Laser disc films.
THIS! "
Ppfft!
Most GPs back then operated a first come appointment system.
Go to surgery, take a number and probably sit around for 4 hours waiting to be seen. |

Maybe that was true where you lived .
But where I lived, Southall riots, not far away Brixton riot's.
Stabbings and racially motivated attacks common place.
I myself was severely beaten and nearly killed by a group of national front nutjobs because I had non white friends.
Don't forget the poll tax riot's and the coal miner's strike's that usually ended in violence.

Argos catalogues. I was flicking through an old argos catalogue ( a scanned online version) earlier to help my daughter with some homework. I remembered the smell of the book, and the excitement I'd get as a kid seeing all those toys |

Being able to get on a train and travel where you wanted when you and not have to plan a day out around strikes.
Having an NHS that isn't broken, didn't need to use it much back in the 80's but as you get older you become more reliant on it. |
