Some maternity units in a place called Ipswich which is actually the capital of Suffolk are stoppings mums using gas and air because of dangerous levels left lingering. Surely they could just open a window or is that dangerous too.

Probably a deeper reason for this.
Perhaps opening a window will let out valuable heat and push up heating costs even further.
Also if the ward has climate control it's not as easy as "just" opening a window.

I would be more concerned about the poor midwives than who are subjected to the gases on a daily basis, rather than a woman who uses it for one day. The rooms need to be kept warm for babies as well so windows would need to be kept shut at points to keep the rooms warm I would imagine. |

I read that story too.
Its temporary until they get new ventilation units put in.
Until then they have ordered some mobile units which will take a few days to arrive.
Personally, I didn't like nitrous oxide during labour but I did take a few breaths during a rather painful colonoscopy. |

They can keep their gas and air- it’s shite and didn’t make the slightest difference last time I had some- was that useless I think I almost collapsed the gas bottle trying to suck some pain relief out of the thing.
Just break out the morphine please- that shit proper hits the spot!  |

It was stopped because it contained high levels of nitrous oxide left lingering in the room. At least everyone should have had a giggle.
Basildon University Hospital stopped providing gas and air for about 3 weeks last year for similar reasons. |

I couldnt get any relief from it giving birth so just did the proverbial bite on the stick and push the buggers out. For a recent hospital trip I think I finally cracked it and took their whole supply, I was definitely not still 'present' during the procedure. Amazing stuff |

Same (bar the dentist thing). I took one drag of it when I was delivering my son and it made me feel d*unk and out of control. I thought that delivering a baby was a good time to remain in control.
I just used a TENS machine for both my labours, nothing else. |

I was the same, did absolutely nothing for the pain, though I did work my way through the list of pain relief and the only thing that actually worked was a spinal block. Back to back labour is a killer! |

Every woman's experience of labour is different. Personally I think if you want every method of pain relief known to woman you should have it. It's the end result that's important not the method by which you achieve it where pain and labour is concerned.
I know women who felt they'd failed because they needed a C-section and others who thought that having an epidural meant they were weak. Such a shame that they thought that way. Don't get me started on breast vs bottle |

My youngest grandaughter gave birth in November! Was adamant no epidural! But had to have one as needed an emergency c section she was very upset at time but baby was fine which is main thing x |

I had my last with no pain relief as I waited until the last minute to get to the hospital and it was too late for Pethidine-which I didn't want anyway as it makes me too tired to push-and I don't like gas and air.
I don't remember it being any worse for me than the other labours.
