So I was at the rugger tonight and it crossed my mind … who on Fab is a rugby fan?
Drop a note on here and you never know you might find a friendly fan/fans who might be up for a social at the game!
I’ll throw my allegiance in… Bristol Bears and get to the odd England game when I can |

I played for my local club for 15 years. And lived in Twickenham for 5 years up until 2019 so became a quins fan then!
Quins and saracens came to my local after a game at the stoop on my birthday a few years back (coincidence) and got to meet robshaw, Danny care and a few others.
Sorry...yes I am a rugby fan. |

"I'm a rugby fan.
Any particular team? "
I followed my local team Sale Sharks when Philippe Saint-André was in charge, around 2004 - 09. When Sale moved from Edgeley Park, to that godforsaken stadium near the Trafford Centre it wasn't really the same.
Nationally I support Wales.
Am looking forward to the 6 Nations.
And the world Cup 23.
I was at the women's world Cup this year when the Black Ferns beat England. |

I did wonder if you were a Sale fan
And wow… you were at probably the best game of rugby of 2022 - I would have loved to have been at Eden Park that day.
It was a shame the Wales ladies didn’t get further - but what about that last minute kick to beat Scotland ? Love Keira Bevan! |

You have not been here during 6 nations time… we all come out during that time… and maybe the odd Saturday in the summer tours and the lions!
Anyway… loyalties… Ireland… Munster man! And in my very early days, inside centre for Essex at youth county level.. and de Montfort uni 3rd.. not my fault I had an English, Welsh, Leicester and Lancashire inside centre in front of me! Freakishly deep.. the rest of the team were pants!!! |

https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/rfu-council-approves-lowering-of-the-tackle-height-across-community-rugby-in-england-2023"
I did see that… I don’t agree.. I think it’s a case of teaching people from a young age to tackle properly!
They overcompensated with the tackle in air rules and now they are overcompensating with high tackle rules
The other thing is if they are going to card people if the person being tackled stoops or slips and they are not going to call that mitigation which they should then no one has a clue |

Not a bad description. And the one in the middle is called a ho*ker
First time I've been censored by the forums and I was talking about the guy who wears the number 2 Jersey in rugby union lol. |

Unless you’re only interested in the elite game.
"
Seems to me the RFU feels like it has to do something to combat the negative press rugby is getting, to encourage people to continue competing at an amateur level.
However, they’ve not shown their workings here. Similar things have been trialled before, and the number of concessions went through the roof. Of equal concern is the huge number of head injuries that weren’t concussive. Extremely low tackles increase the risk of contact with fast-moving knees. Unless I’ve missed some detail, this won’t improve things, and could potentially increase injuries.
If was these kinds of injuries that led to the advert of league all those years ago. We can’t de-risk everything.
So, in short: bad for the spectacle of union, and more dangerous for the players. Madness. |

Not a particular rugby fan but of course support Wales. My least favourite team in any sport is England Rugby, nothing personal though.
Looking forward to the 6 nations and hope we do better for the next few years now Gats is back.
Happy I won't be seeing much of Eddie Jones on our tv's talking shit anymore.
Jonah Lomu
Alan Wyn Jones
Shane Williams

I am guessing these are more concussions in rugby via poor tackling technique than head collisions (I have screamed put your head on the other side in more than one pub!) lowering the tackle zone isn’t helping that!
If you wanted to stop impact collisions the first thing you would take out the game would be to take out the impact and pressure at the scrum |

It's hard to only pick just three but I think Jonah makes most lists, that in itself says a lot about it. RIP Jonah. He would of given his retirement back to the game I'm sure, coach, manager, pundit, ambassador.

Sorry, I meant Eddie Jones, not AWJ! It’ll be interesting to see how critical is his of England (given that for all Borthwick’s input, there will still be shades of Jones in the squad) |

Yer this is now a joke was at my old club Friday night for a drink.
And thay are saying if they pay all players then the rule dose not count so don't no how the RFU is going to introduced this.
But your right this new law posable could back fire with knee or boot to head or face.
Below arm pit makes more sense!
But I was always taught to aim for hips and slide down.
Problem is also guys how play are getting bigger and fitter and there for faster. All adding to risk.. |

Recently stopped playing and missing it massively, position - in the middle at the front of the scrum for some reason you can't put that word in the forum I've just found out h ooker.
Team is Worcester which is a barrel of laughs at the moment. |

"In fact… don’t get me started about the way they clear out the ruck… I am going to go grumpy old man!!!
You have got me in 6n mode 2 weeks early!! "
If we got rid of the offside line at the tackle, a ghastly modern innovation, this wouldn't be so much of an issue; there'd be no point flying through the gate if someone could just step across and pick it up. In fact, every law change designed to make the came faster and more open, reduce the importance of rucks and maul and generally make the game more appealing to people who don't like rugby could be binned and have a better effect of concussions. |

Didn't the italians exploit a rule against England in six nations years ago and they didn't commit men at the breakdown, which meant there was no offside line, and then kept stepping over and taking the ball and England didn't know how what to do, camera caught robshaw or marler asking the referee what they can do when Italy did it again and he tells them to ask their own Coach.
Did the offside line at the tackle come in after that game is what I'm asking |

Professional players are too big and fast to tackle safely above the waist, so Old Corinthians 4th XV, where anyone described as big will certainly not be fast and the winger's nicknamed Noodle, must be prevented from tackling above the waist while the pros continue to do so... |

Yes and no. Yes they did exploit the laws, but not exactly like that. By not entering what England expected to be rucks, they stopped a ruck from forming as you need at lest one player from each side. Therefore there was no ruck offside line formed and do when the England automata formed a caterpillar and moved the ball from the tackle site, the Italians moved up alongside it.
The offside at a tackle was introduced about 15 years ago; the need PD to "enter through the gate" a few seasons later. Back in the day, you couldn't be offside until a ruck was formed. It's the fact that players can only come in to contest for a tackled ball through a narrow channel that makes running into it as fast as you can to clear it out an effective tactic. |
