I have just put my banking app on my phone, and for once I checked what was being taken from my account
Low and behold I see that Amazon prime have been taking £7.99 per month for almost 2 years!!
I have only ever ordered from Amazon once, and that was a book
What exactly is Amazon prime? And has anyone else had the same issue? |

You never check your bank statements?
You probably ticked the wrong box when ordering something from Amazon. They make the Prime box massive and the 'no Prime' box tiny. |

Amazon prime is a premium service.
It "guarantees" next day delivery.
Gives special deals and discounts on some items.
Comes with Amazon prime video allowing you to stream a large selection of movies and shows.
It is highly likely that you initially signed up to the free trial without realising and it was not an auto cancel. |

Thanks it turns out then that I've paid around £160 for a book lol |

Check every debit for the last 6 months. You might be signed up for other things you can cancel.
Some banking apps let you cancel the direct debit. |

Goodwill? Amazon?
Not bloody likely. Bezos has already spent it going into space. |

I suspect the biggest learn from this isn't what Amazon Prime is, but to check your bank statements a little more often.
I'm usually on my bank app daily. I probably couldn't fo 2 days without checking it.

Maybe write and complain. Explain your situation and how you had subscribed without realising.
Maybe they might refund, maybe not. You won’t know without asking.

I'm well behind the times with tech tbh, just put the app on my phone this morning and noticed this
I will take your advice though and check daily....had I known it was so simple I'd have had the app long ago |

Honestly their customer service is great. I have had things refunded after one email that i would have had to fight months of calls with other companies. Its bot just the convenience that keeps people coning back |

"That’s an expensive book. "
At least he got it next day. Someone must have banged on the door, nearly knocking it down, threw the parcel on the floor, jumped back in the van and gone before you even had the chance to open your door and without even knowing if you were in or away on a two week holiday and ignoring any instructions you had put about delivery, safe place etc. Does that sound familiar to anyone? |

Amazon is amazing. It will eventually KILL all other forms of shopping but .... it is too good not to use.
They do Prime delivery. I love it. I get Prime films and series on the t.v. and I can get Amazon Fresh and a few other things I don't use.
Don't blame Amazon for doing what you ask for. Blame the account holder. All it takes is for the Account holder to cancel payments.

I must admit that they don't quibble about returns or refunds and that sort of thing seems all fine to be fair. |

Not blaming anyone but myself tbh
Just shocked at how simple it was for them to take my money when I don't even know (or didn't till now) what it was
I'm sure it won't be a problem cancelling, and will be more aware In future

If I had a pool built and said ' oh hey mate I never used it will you give me my money back ??? doesn't make sense"
I'm sure though that you'd be aware that you actually ordered a pool lol |

But did you unwittingly sign up to the pool and then they built it without you noticing and in a place you couldn’t see so you didn’t know you had it?
Yes, he’s bound by t&c’s
They also have good customer service. |

You'll need to cancel with amazon. Its a recurring card charge not a direct debit so the bank won't be able to do it.
My daughter set this up without realising and amazon refunded without any question although that was only 1 month so not as long |

More like as if you'd asked a tradesman to fix a tap washer , he fixed it . You paid about £20 , and the crafty sod got you to sign up for a repair cover policy you never asked for.by sneaking it into the bill
I almost did the same with prime as the OP. I'd suggest you set up your banking app to alert your phone when money goes out , and hopefully in.

Not sure you can via the bank as it's a direct debit you need to cancel through Amazon. Unless it's a card in which you can cancel the card |

Oh gosh oooops lol. For you I guess Amazon Prime is the most expensive delivery service Hopefully they will refund you, they do state if you cancel they will refund you if unused services or at least partial, only I’m not sure they will go back 2 years. |

Amazon prime fantastic and you get their tv/film streaming service for free. It’s a shame you’ve been paying all this time without using the benefits.
Their customer service is very good too. They may refund you it if you explain the situation, and they will be able see you have not used any services.
Amazon are amazing at refunding too, this is because people somewhere in the chain are being exploited, but I am ashamed to say I am now so used to next day delivery… |

I've had prime for about 2 and a half years, I might use it maybe 4 times a year at most, but I do use it.
It's saved my bacon a couple of times when I absolutely had to get next day delivery like new work shoes in the middle of the week. |

"The Amazon checkout process is very weaselly and steers you to taking Prime membership. However you do get free delivery and choice of streamed movies (not all free)."
And you have to be careful as often the 'repeat' is ticked in rather than the 'one off' deluvery |

If you've never used it and your Amazon history will prove that, it's worth contacting them. It's not unreasonable to ask for the refund. It'll cost you nothing but time to try it. |
