A knighthood is the highest honour to be bestowed on someone, winning 2 golds at Olympics doesn't constitute the title of 'Sir', a repeat performance then maybe but not yet |

"Mo Farah was awarded a CBE but not the knighthood.
I am disappointed."
I would think he will be ecstatic with a CBE and who knows what will come his way in the future. |

"Nobody ought to get any sort of gong for doing what they do for a living.
Fair point but would we have any if that was the case?"
Yes. There's lots of folks who have 'worthwhile' jobs who do stuff like being a Scout Leader or running a foodbank or whatever for no financial or prestige reward. they do it just because it contributes to a better life for others. |

That's the trouble. It just devalues the award. |

"Quite right, I don't think any sports, or famous person should get an OBE, CBE, MBE or even the KBE. These should be saved for folk that actually do something useful for the country!"
Well said that man! |

And there are people that refuse to accept such national awards and you`ll never hear of them being considered. So just because they haven`t got an OBE or whatever doesn`t mean they haven`t been considered/nominated. |

Dame Kelly Holmes got her title for exactly that. |

If you believe they are worth anything in the first place of course.
Exhibit A:
Hector Sants. Head of the Financial Services Authority when the banks almost destroyed our economy. Knighted. |
