I like saying hello to magpies. Not because of the superstition but because I feel that they half expect it these days, after being greeted for centuries?

Always touch wood.

Or masturbation as some philistines insist on calling it.

I don’t whistle at night or stare out of the window at night. You never know what stares back.

I have to see the New Moon without looking through glass, otherwise I will have a month of bad luck.

Whoever thought that one up years ago wouldn't have realised then that most of us are going to get a first glimpse of it through a car windscreen nowadays.

"

Like the abyss, what stares back is you.

Which may be no less terrifying.

A new moon is when the moon is 0% visible, so you can’t see it through glass or any other way, besides during a solar eclipse

Count to 10 if I go back indoors as I forgot something.

Cant have the car stereo on an odd number, always ask the motorbikes to play nice and look after me before every ride.

Not sure if not walking under a ladder is a superstition or just sensible...

I can't ignore a penny left abandoned. I am generally very logical and not into that sort of thing. But it's one thing that I'm impulsed to do incase not doing signals to the universe I don't take care of money and in response I come across hard financial times as a result. Completely mad I know and just not like me.

My mother is from Yorkshire so I sometimes wonder if it's in my DNA or I was subliminally brainwashed as a child to look after every penny. Its the only explanation I can think of for this illogical superstition.

Only the plus side I've probably made about £5 in provable profits from this superstition

There was a saying that went " see a pin pick it up"..which in time changed to see a penny pick it up..

I know a chap worth around £2milion,who still picks up coins.. ..

Whenever in a church or cathedral I'll light a candle for my nan and other friends I've lost and take a minute to think of them. Am not religious but my mum always did it. And I message her after I’ve done it and it makes her happy so is worth it.

I won't open a brolly indoors,

I won't step on the cracks in the pavement,

I won't put shoes on a table,

I won't walk under ladders,

I throw salt over my shoulder if I spill any by accident,

I won't pass anyone on the stairs,

could go on but I'll stop there.

I don't go very often but if I'm ever driving on the Isle of Man I ALWAYS greet the Fairies under the Fairy Bridge as ALL motorists, inc local bus drivers, are urged to do.

One time I didn't.... and my exhaust fell off shortly after! lol

Be warned!

Some say don’t walk on 1 or 3 grid’s because it’s bad luck and 2 grids is good luck. Some say the other way around. So I just don’t walk over any. I also salute 2 magpies and then touch black to send it back.

"Never cross people on stairs "

Certainly in doors, also if I start walking up or down, I don’t stop and go back, I finish the journey and go the other way if I’ve forgotten something.

Also, and this is from playing football, socks and shoes, left sock, right sock, left shoe, right shoe, always.

I thought a colloquialism would be adequate on these pages!

I should have called it an early waxing crescent moon.

Usually I note the date of New Moon and start looking a couple of days later.

If I'm lucky I will see it and not have to worry about intervening glass for another month!

If I wear a new bit of clothing and my day is beyond terrible, it'll take a while before I wear it again. And if my day is that bad the second time I wear it, I won't wear it again. It's daft but it's something I do

"I don’t whistle at night or stare out of the window at night. You never know what stares back.

I feel you need to say this as a film trailer, in a deep gravelly voice.

local, but not too local

Not waking under ladders is sensible if you don’t enjoy having things dropped on your head.

Personally I try not to jinx it. I won’t celebrate until it’s definitely a proven success.

I do but as a nostalgic love gesture to my father who always used to do it. I’m not superstitious.
