The courier Evri (was Hermes) is currently in chaos and lots of Christmas stuff still undelivered or even lost by them. Anyone caught up in this, or any idea why they are so much worse than all the other parcel services?

I think they have overstretched themselves over Christmas.
Prior to the start of Covid I was sending upwards of 500 parcels a year with minimum problems, Sadly Covid forced me to close my business and I have not reopened it. Only send one or two a month now.
One thing which has always been a problem is the lack of Customer Service and non availability of telephone contacts.
My local courier has sadly departed from Evri after 9 years of service and she warned me that many couriers were quitting to go to better paid jobs.
Still better than Royal Mail though. |

I've used DPD for daily collections in a previous job. That amounted to about 30 parcels a day.
The local driver averaged between 120-150 drops every single day. He was self employed with little or no benefits or time off.
I've seen the depot he worked out of advertise for new van owning drivers at least 6 times in the last year so it's a thankless task. |

If you're personally sending out or getting deliveries a lot then by law of averages you will get some problems. I've had no problems recently with any of them. I'm expecting a Evri delivery later and may be out so registered my Safe Place. Very annoying that royal mail don't have this system because I just had to collect a parcel from sorting office that another courier would have left in my safe place. |

Just received an evri delivery that I only ordered yesterday and didn't expect it for at least another few days, DPD on the other hand often seems incapable of delivering anything here. Apparently we aren't home, even though I have told them 4 times it's because they have the wrong house |

They're not too bad round here. They did have a bit of a struggle keeping up about a year ago, but are usually good at communicating if there are any delays.
Royal Mail though, have lost a couple of items and Yodel, well, whenever I see that a parcel is coming via them I worry.
A few years ago they 'lost' an item of mine and then later claimed to have delivered it - this was AFTER I'd contacted them to try and ascertain where it was. And, as they'd claimed to deliver it - without actually providing any proof of delivery - like a signature - I was unable to claim from the supplier for the item, so I was out of pocket |

Article in yesterday's Metro about a woman who was so fed up of not being able to contact them ( she had tried every method ) that she told them that their courier had set fire to her house.
They contacted her.

The thing with Evri, Yodel and several other couriers is that most staff are self employed. So you get good, great, amazing and absolutely shite service depending on where you are. There's no consistency.
With all the RM strikes I've had way more problems with them. Some orders I sent out at the start of December still haven't arrived. I've already had compensation cheques though and either refunded or hand delivered to clients.
Evri are definitely the best round here.

I run an ecommerce business and use various couriers. Only reliable ones is are Amazon.
Always dealing with lost packages and packages that have been delivered but basically dumped just to tick the box that it has been delivered.
Once a courier from DPD left a £2500 parcel at the front door of a terraced house with no front porch. Was supposed to be signed and given to the customer with a special code.
A lot of horror stories to tell. At least I have business rates for deliveries so all fuck ups are paid out by couriers. |

It seems unlikely but fantasies are fun, it only needs a chink of possibility.
Any of the females here know yheir delivery men a little better than is the norm? |

I swear I'm on DPD's shitlist. Anything delivered by them is ripped to pieces if it's delivered at all. Had multiple items go missing or part opened. I'll use any other courier bar them.

My local Evri courier is a star. She delivered a lot of computer parts just before the christmas period for various system builds. All have been without issues. I think if you have a good courier, as with all firms, then the service should be fine. It pays to keep an eye on local social media in case you see complaints. |

I'm sure I heard on the news yesterday that there's going to be a government enquiry into courier services and in particular into evri. There's no means to claim via their site, so we always buy their services through packlink or parcel2go - they must have direct communication with evri because they always sort late or lost parcels. |
