I paid a considerable amount of money last week for my cat to have blood tests & a urine test. I was quoted the price it would be & I assumed that included the urine test. Everything came back normal so, the thing she is doing is behavioural.
Today I got a call from the vets saying there’s a balance which needs paid for the urine test. It is the vets mistake for not mentioning it at the time I was there, she also forgot to add it to the list of tests, when I was paying for it. I’ve been in to the vets twice to hand in said urine & heard from them twice for the results & not once was this mentioned.
As it was their fault should I pay? It’s such a small amount that it’s hardly going to cripple their long standing business, but then it’s such a small amount that I’d have no problem paying it. It’s the principle. Should I pay for their mistake or make a stand?
What would you do?
(For the record I’m probably going to pay it) |

As you say it's a small amount, however that is not the issue here, it's the fact it was not mentioned i could have been a lot more. We would pay but voice our displeasure so they are aware their procedures need tightening up. |

If they quoted you, even verbally and you believe the quote included this test, contractually, you don't need to pay. The terms of the sale were made on this basis.
Sounds like they made a mistake. When a business makes a mistake, the business pays the cost of that mistake.

In this situation, I'd pay. They did the work and as you said, it's not expensive.
If it was a £3,000 test then I'd be contesting it but in this case it just sounds like a genuine mistake of someone forgetting to push the right button.

I am going to pay, but like you say if they failed to inform me that a procedure or test cost say £300 I’d want to know what I could do |

Iv had a similar issue with my vet
I now ask for a price breakdown and for them to call me before any extra tests or treatments are carried out to avoid any unexpected costs.
Hope this helps and that the furry one is ok. |

"Did you sign any paperwork when the tests were done? If so, check what is on there. Our vets love to get you signing your money away

She’s biting the end of her tail so has caused all the hair to go, not the actual skin. Pain/illness has been ruled out, so it’s likely to be stress but what triggered it I don’t know. She’s done this before when her previous owner had a baby (2018) I got her in 2019, when she settled here it all stopped and the hair grew back. I haven’t had a baby and as far as I’m aware nothing has changed. I’m trying to be more aware of her now, more cuddles on her terms, more play, she does have Early Feline Dementia but she’s on supplements for that. As Toyah sang…. It’s A Mystery…. |

You should pay for the service they provided you. "
I have already paid for what they quoted me, now they want more - if it was something more expensive and they forgot to list it, they don’t necessarily have recourse on it. |

But did you receive the service they are charging you for? And would you have agreed if they had quoted in advance?
If so, seems a little churlish to quibble. |

Fingers crossed they can get her sorted.
It’s never nice feeling helpless when they are poorly. |

Moved on from vets, Reiki next, failing that Bitter Apple Spray or she’ll have no tail hair left |
