Reading his obituaries I found out he played with Stevie Wonder and apparently came up with the iconic drum intro to Superstition. Stevie actually gave Beck the song to record before changing his mind and releasing it himself. A very brilliant and unpredictable musician. |

Very sad and very unexpected news
Had the pleasure of working with Jeff a few times and he was a really nice guy, very humble but an absolute master of the guitar, especially on stage where he pretty much never played a wrong note over all those decades. Not many anyway.
RIP Jeff |

One of my all time favourites. The original Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart paved the way for Led Zep. They copied and made the sound heavier. Jeff's later jazz oriented stuff with his mastery of the whammy bar is mesmerising. For those who immediately think Hi Ho Silver lining check out Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's. There is the added advantage of the gobsmacking playing and loose tits of Tal Wilkefeld on bass.. Who looks about 14 but stunning player. Unfortunately I missed his last tour when Johnny Depp kept joining in. I did manage to see him about 10 years ago (time flies). His instrumental version of the song Steve Wonder wrote for Syretta Cause We've Ended as Lovers is revered in the guitar community. |
