So, if at some point in the past all life on Earth existed in the seas, and women evolved from a fish it would go a long way to explaining the fishy smell that is probably a genetic marker from their watery ancestors. |

Yes they do, but they hadn't evolved completely at that point.
Mermaids eventually developed a mask of beauty to snare men and of course to hide the demon beneath. Eventually as time evolved they developed legs as became women as we know them today.
Though obviously a very important point to remember is that the demon still lurks beneath |
