I’v been pondering life lately.

I’m curious who else is happy with things as they are now, single but meeting / dating regularly etc but aware you’re not getting any younger and this lifestyle maybe doesn’t work forever.

What is your plan is for 5-10 years from now. No plan , just carry on on doing the same or plan to go back to a regular type of relationship ?

How with things like retirement , reduced finances, possibly declining health & mobility impact your decisions to stay single (ish)

I've never made a conscious decision to be single. If the right person came along I'd happily form a committed relationship, it's simply that I've tried dating websites and dating at this time of life seems so blasted difficult!

That said I do occasionally (fleetingly) worry about how I'll go through old age, but then I remember that actually there's no guarantee that any partner would still be with me into old age, so I double down on my personal commitment to continue living a healthy, active and interesting life that's all for myself.

I think that’s where I’m at - occasional fleeting thoughts about old age.

I was back in the UK for most of December and it was freezing, expensive and for first time in a long time I felt quite unsure about the future.

My lovers are generally younger & realistically this lifestyle will end in the next 5-15 - that’s a scary thought.

As everyone gets that bit older everyday ..they do you know ...there is absolutely nothing can be done about it, the main thing is to make the most of every day but as regards dating do not just settle , be true to yourself always , if you settle you might look back on your life and see you could have done more with it rather than just settle , hey we'll all check out but at least try and check out doing whatever it is you love to do or be with , yes lm fully aware that it might not happen but at least try .

I'm happy with life at mo! Retiring this year as b 66! Never gonna b in a relationship again not for me! Been single since 2004! Dabble with men when it suits! On my reckoning I have 9 years left if I'm lucky! And intend to live them doing just what I want x

I've only ever dated or met women around my own age so getting older isn't really an issue in that respect - if I'm still here in 10, 20, 30 years then I hope there will be at least one person of a similar age who will fancy a fingering at the Bingo every other Wednesday.

If someone prefers much younger partners that's their choice but I think inevitably it will be more difficult to achieve as age marches on. I see quite a few people on Fab in their 50s who's preference is for people 20 or 30 years younger and I do wonder how much this is a hunger for their own lost youth, a last chance before they think it's too late ?

I’m over 50 and am happy single, I’ve had a couple of massive failures in relationships, but have family that love me lots and toys to occupy me, I couldn’t be happier if I’m honest

9 years left of Fab lifestyle or 9 years left of life? Why do you say 9 years?

Sorry for your loss. Why do you say you'll never have another relationship? Is it cos no one could ever replace your partner.

I can understand the happy being single, always amazed at people who think a relationship is the solution - its bloody hard work.

I wouldn't want to replace him. He always said if anything happened to him he would want me to meet someone else but I don't want to.

I had 16 years of perfect relationship. Somepeople never find that so I will live of my happy memories

I just prefer the energy and attitude of younger partners, it’s certainly not a lost youth. It’s not getting harder but I think I may want different things in life as I get older, like companionship over lots of sex etc

Next Door

I'm happy with my life, it would be nice to have someone special to enhance it.

My age range on here is what I would go for when I date, but that would change for that one special person.

Can't say how long I will carry on in this life, I enjoy lots of aspects.

Wherever

I’m rapidly approaching big 50 and if I’m being honest, it’s looming over me.

I’m single parent to two school age children with complex needs. I am literally undateable.

Our life is so structured I can’t imagine letting anyone in. Many have tried but none could ever fit in and it’s totally understandable.

I am happy and grateful for what I have, doing the best I can.

I am one of these people who has limiting age filters on here selected on my preference only based on looks, energy/stamina, less baggage (for want of a better term) etc. I have also pondered frequently about whether I am actually trying to reclaim a lost youth or for shallow validation of fading looks. Maybe it is but I don't think so.

For me there is something about knowing that I have to grab life by the balls and live it to the full whether that is with a guy in his 20s, 50s, with friends and family or entirely alone.

Will I still be doing what I'm doing now in 10 years? No. I'm stepping of the career ladder this year to do me. Travel, try new things, volunteer, work only when I need to, have new experiences whilst I can. Will I still be single? Probably. If I find Mr Right I would re-evaluate but I have never been more lonely than when in an unhappy and unfulfilling relationship and wishing I was somewhere else.

I'm approaching 50 and very happily single. I'll carry on living as I live for as long as it serves me.

If in 20 years I'm struggling to get a partner for the night I'll either hire one or stick with a rabbit - either are a better option to me than settling for a relationship I don't really want.

That said there are a couple of ladies I see in my local updates, one in her late 60s and the other in her early 70s. Both have proved to me that it is possible to still meet for many years yet. Long may they continue to enjoy themselves

I am 59 in better shape than most people more than half my age lead n a time life dance, play airsoft, travel, and when I can enjoy this lifestyle. And yet even for women in their 50s I am considered far too old.

So yes I have been wondering if my time is up now. Not due to my physical ability but people's conceptions

About 6 months ago I started a thread on Fabs called Early Retirement.Well the day of reckoning is approaching I will be 55 in a couple of weeks I can request my work pension and if I am happy with the figures I can leave although it can take 3-4 months for everything to be done before I can leave. However I am now having doubts as I have very little to fill my day.As for Fabs I feel that my time is also coming to the end at the moment Fabs for me is day at a time
