I am the cliché of the person who has time off over the New Year holiday and realises that I’d rather poke my eyes out than spend another year in my current role.
But what, in the name of all that is holy, shall I do?
Restaurant Critic would work beautifully for me.
But my question for you, is - are you doing your dream job?
Have you had it? Was it what you’d hoped?
Or are you still dreaming of yours? |

You should work where I work. You'd love it. By which I mean I'd love it.
I applied for two jobs simultaneously just after university. One was fir market research and I got their offer two days before the interview for the second...which was a roving researcher for The Good Pub Guide. What might have been!
But even more than that, my bandmate from my (honestly pretty good) Sixth Form College band writing to me 2 months into university inviting me to drop out because he was making a proper go of it. Honestly the hardest decision of my life. I agonised for a week before saying no. He's gone onto tour the world and have a fantastic career. But I still love my job enough to think I was (just about) right. |

When I was younger I was idealistic and full of excitement for my career. Now I’d rather get paid and go home. I still have my dream job. I know I’m lucky. It’s not the work that’s changed, it’s me. I just like other things more than my job nowadays. |

I would say I have a dream job, would I have picked it year's ago likely not.
Job would be classed as dangerous, has extreme goals and targets to meet under immense pressure.
Work ridiculous hours which has a handsome pay.
Work 2/3rds of the year plus 28days hols
House+car+food allowance covered in whichever country I'm sent.
Flown home or to a country where ticket prices are equivalent.
Would I say I'm always happy nooo. But at the end of the year I look back and think not to shabby.

Definitely not doing the dream job now, but to be honest don't actually know what the dream job would be. I'd thought of many things when younger, but never followed it up, but those jobs weren't paying as well.

A bit late now I’ve reached 40 (plus I was a bit shit at it lol), but I would have loved to be a professional rugby player.
Now, I’d love to do something that helps people - sadly the wages just aren’t there. But I do volunteer though. |

We started this lifestyle a year ago & I found my love of so many different aspects of sex, if it had been 10-15 years ago id have tried to get into porn/call girl but now as a 37yr old with a family, I'd have to say I always liked the idea of being a personal stylist or fashion designer. |

Yes I had it for many years, and like everything you build huge expectations about...its not always as expected.
However! I had fantastic times, travelled, met people from all over and gained experiences that many pay for.
At times I moaned, but now I look around at some people's jobs and have to pinch myself how lucky I was. |

I’m doing a job I quite enjoy and trying to make it better.
I’d love to do my dream job but dependants mean that I need a certain salary and a different career would mean lower pay and less regular pay too.
Have you got a dream job in mind, OP? |

I hate my job and have for months.
I will quit tomorrow, my boss doesn’t know yet which makes it even sweeter.
I start my new job on Monday, and there is some love in where I’m going, so I do have and will have some passion for what I’m doing.
Have I done my DREAM JOB yes. Theatre and TV, just bit parts, nothing that warranted asking for my autograph but it was where I needed to be when I was younger.
Op. There comes a time when you’ve goto move on, and I wish you luck in finding something better and what makes you happier than what your doing. |

My dream job was to work in forensic science but I never managed to achieve it. I don’t like the job I’m in at the minute but it pays the bills and allows me to be home for the kids most of the day, so I can’t complain too much. |

I was like you OP last New year. I was in a job but felt so very unhappy and unsettled and demotivated. I didn't want to go back to work after Christmas, I knew I had to change jobs.
I am now working for a local charity and I absolutely love it, I'm very happy.
To anyone out there who is unhappy in a situation, there is only you that can make the change to make things better for yourself.
I hope whatever you decide to do OP, you end up feeling happier.
Good luck.

I’m doing a job now that ticks a lot of boxes in terms of pay, hours etc so I can’t complain too much, but it’s sooo dull and I have no passion for it.

I love my job.
One day at 5 in the morning (at work) I thought to myself if I didn’t change my job I’ d do it forever. I bit the bullet and went self employed late 2019 and I haven’t looked back since. Luckily my previous line of work will always be there if need be but I don’t think I’d go back unless desperate. It was a big risk but I’m so glad I did it.
I was always told “if you’re happy in job you will never work a day in your life” and that’s very true. |

My dream job would be working for myself. Purely because I had the unfortunate experience of having a perfect job, where I worked the hours to suit me and had a wfh Friday every week, to be made redundant 8 months in. Was a good distance from home too.

I'm not happy with my job but it fits around the hours I need and is a decent enough wage for the small hours.
I'd love to be a luxury hotel critic but realistically I'd adore working with people with special needs and it's something I'm looking into for the future so fingers crossed it works out. I can imagine it's very rewarding, and it's also quite close to my heart. |

I’m not currently doing my dream job, but I am actively working toward something that I hope will prove to be it.
That said, one person’s dream job might not be the same as someone else’s- If you decide you’d be happiest by working in what most people would call a “dead end” job because it paid enough to meet your needs and left you with the time and energy to pursue your true passion as a hobby then that’s just as valid a route to happiness as working yourself to the bone climbing to the pinnacle of your chosen profession. Just do you, and screw everyone else. |

"Well sadly being an astronaut is a little out of my reach so I’m living the second dream job of being an artist
What kind of art do you create?"
Digital portraits and illustrations mostly but I’m also working on a colouring book as well (third time lucky, one day I might proof read properly before posting ) |

"Total Dream Job ..
Find someone to travel around the world with and do a YouTube channel and monetise it ( won't happen but hey ho )...
Also to have my complete own shop selling speciality meats and deli stuff , but that won't happen either as its costs too much..
So a bit of a pointless post really
Not a porn distributor? "

I've worn many hats in my time since I left school, none of which were my dream job. I'm currently trying to kick off what I hope will be a good self employed job, but it'll take time, luckily I already have the skill and resources to start small |

My dream job, after having given up on a relatively comfortable but insipid Technology role, would be to return to my original vocation of being a historian/evangelist on the Genealogy of Perfume.
I should have stuck with original choice. |

"I am the cliché of the person who has time off over the New Year holiday and realises that I’d rather poke my eyes out than spend another year in my current role.
"
Totally feeling this sentiment OP, I am DONE with my current role! My solution: fire a C.V. at anything that moves |

Corporate sound gigs are the ones - 2 day conference Pa and mic up a couple of suits - awards dinner and. Disco after - they pay daft money and you do a little bit if work - especially if you already have the kit. |
