Your profile sounds like a job application
Jump to: Newest in thread
I’ve been told on a couple of occasions now that my profile sounds like a job application.
Do you consider this a bad thing?
Has anyone ever said it about your profile?
How do you think a profile *should* sound? |

"How much taller than 6’7 are you
I'm only 6' 8", but being male, I'm sensitive to losing an inch!
There are guys on here taller than me who lose even more. "
someone messaged me last night who was 6'10. i reckon you and the taller members of fabland should ask the makers of all that is fab, to open the height options up, meaning no one would ever have to lose inches ever again. the end Px |

Have you had many CV's sent to you or many opening messages asking you where do you see yourself in 5 years time?.. |

I raised a thread about exactly this in the site improvements section recently! I'm sure I'm far from the first. I don't have much hope they'll fix it, though. |

I'm not sure I consider it a bad thing, it isn't necessarily filled with warmth/personality but then I imagine it aligns nicely with how you view/what you want from the site.
No, I've never been told my profile sounds like a job application.
And I don't know how one should sound...
An accurate reflection/voice of the person typing it? Not too try hard, not mimicking the ideal profile (you know the generic cookie cutter profile ideals spouted on here). Something that's very you. |

No mystery at all. It's like reading a bad monologue.
I'd remove the 1st paragraph. Too weird to start off a bio. We get it, you are tall. Kinda make it sound like a superiority over people with the way you present it.
If that's the only quality you have to display. I'd still fuck a guy who says he plays with legos and doesn't flex his height.
Make people ask questions about it rather than giving everything away in your bio. Perhaps you'll get more engagement that way.
Leave the rest, all good from the 2nd. Just my 2 cents. |

If ppl are looking for a nocturnal incontinent, with dodgy knees and back, then my profile is the one for them, for my cv is even worse |

Thank you for your input! Unfortunately, I think this is just what I sound like. I guess me not being filled with warmth or personality may well be the underlying issue! |

Wait, are you saying my profile sounds like a bad monologue? (Don't worry if so; it's perfectly valid criticism!)
Thank you for providing some actionable advice! I've removed that paragraph as suggested. Trying to sound superior definitely wasn't my intention; I mentioned my stature at all because most of the profile advice seems to be to emphasise what makes you stand out from the crowd.
What is it I'm giving away in my bio? How would you suggest making people ask questions? |

"You lost me at I’m a physically imposing specimen
In a good way or a bad way? "
I've never heard anyone describe theirselves that way so it's unique and funny |

People always bring up my size the first time they meet me. It's been happening since I was a teenager – I can't remember the last time I met someone who didn't. People always say to try to make your profile stand out, so I thought I'd mention the thing that makes me stand out in person. |

I think and my opinion only, “the experience working in groups” sounds a bit cold, like your there to get it done rather than enjoy….
But alas it’s your profile and wrote the way you want to come across, remember we won’t ever appeal to everyone, so if your happy with it, stick to it |

My bad, I didn't take it that way. I thougt you meant like physically attractive. Now you've explained, it makes sense. |

I wouldn’t say I’m happy with it, as such; more that I don’t currently know how to make it better.
I’m not sure *how* I’m coming across, which is why I periodically ask for feedback! I always try to act on it, too – I’ve changed a number of things based on the comments other users have kindly taken the time to make.
While I guess I *am* here to get things done, as you put it, I definitely want everyone involved to enjoy themselves! |
