What are your 2023 fitness goals?

By *hagTonight OP   Man  over a year ago

From the land of haribos.

First of all. I want to wish you all a happy new year.

It is a new year and now my cutting phase have started till the summer. I will do a slow cut to get more definition, which means that I will cut the calories slowly and slowly increase the cardio. I will be training 3 times a week doing a full body workout,

here is my year plan:

January to may: Slow cut

June to september: Maingaining (Eating at maintenance)

October to december: A slight surplus (About 300 calories)

What are your fitness goal?

Bought into the Fitbit crazy!!

Goals:

Drop 1st 4lbs currently back to my “fighting weight”, currently weigh 14st 12

Develop more leaner physique

Include more functional strength rather than traditional and mechanical weight training

I want to lose about 10kgs & prefer going super strict for a quick loss over shorter period. Then I can hit maintenance quicker.

I’ll be gym 3/4 times a week with a 5km run after every gym session although cardio increases my appetite so I may cut back a little.

Good luck and that is a good goal too, not at all. I have been doing weight lifting since I was 18, about 22 years, it is one of my hobbies.

I'm aiming to do dry January

I am planning to introduce a daily walk, 2-5km, increasing to 5-10km at weekends and then up to 20km in the summer

I'm going a daily plank +squat challenge and will be dipping into hiit with Betty Rocker

Happy new year all

Mine is simple, I hope. Which means it’ll be manageable, fingers crossed!

It’s to keep to my routine of 4-5 visits a week to the gym and to increase my strength. Hopefully leanly! I’m not bothered about looks, I just want to be fit and healthy. Will need to add some cardio into the mix too.

I plan to shift about 2 1/2 stone of snacking & drinking too much for months on end.

I'll be super strict with calorie intake & drop the weight over a couple of months.

I also suffer with a bad back/neck so reintroducing exercise will be more gradual.

Primary goals to stay in good shape, add ~3-4kg of lean mass over the year.

Secondary compete in bench only competition. Need to hit 197.5kg, getting to 180kg will be easy, the last 17.5kg not so much. Will see how the body holds up.

Hello Shag, wishing you a very Happy New Year!

So my fitness goals - I want to get back into swimming. Visit the gym at least three times a week and to carry on with lifting and cardio. See improvements in those areas. Go back to attending my friend's yoga classes to help with my mental state and also improve flexibility. The main goal is to be consistent even if I really don't want to - I can cry my way through sets.

I'm a pretty regular gym goer but never took my diet seriously. I've also been unwell recently and haven't trained properly for about a month.

My goal is to eat right, train hard and get as lean, strong and fit as I ever have been.

I had a pretty lazy 2022 and didnt train anywhere near what i should have done. This year is about training for an Iron Man in 2024. So I've booked runs, rides, swims and Tri's throughout the year with a half Iron Man in Austria in September.

I need to shed a good few KGs before I start to put it back on as muscle and get to my optimum weight

It's a tough one for me this year to be honest. Last year it was about me trying to build muscle with as little fat as possible but as I'm trying to get back into football and carry on with table tennis this year, it might be more on conditioning. That may involve more cardio as opposed to weight based training to help

Not all that North of North London

I've only looked at goals up to April, Manchester Marathon and I'm aiming for a sub 4 PB. Along the way I'm hoping for PBs at half marathon and 10km.

After April, I'm not sure. It'll either be more of the same but possibly a return to track racing on my bike. Or final commit to a triathlon.

I'm also enjoying the gym and having a better body at 51 than I've ever had in my life, vanity and a Peter Pan complex may continue to fuel that

For the last few years I've been very inconsistent with it all so currently trying to get into a routine and stick to it. Was gonna try getting my abs back for March but think that won't be possible but will chip away at it.

Done about a month of 5x5 stronglifts and the weight is ramping up nicely plus added benefit of raising my libido. At the same time got back into a wattbike cycling program 3 times a week. The summer is usually a struggle to go in the gym as I'd rather do outdoor stuff.

I race xc mtb usually and only had one race in 2022 where I fell off and did my rotator cuff in so stretching and strengthening my shoulder is key. Need to do an xc race series and then the SW cyclocross league in the winter. Am crap going downhill off road so need more practice but local stuff is shyte.

Also training for a mountain leader qualification. Off to Chile for my 40th on a 10 day exped which will take some timber.

Gee you are all so good. I have about 3 stone to lose. I absolutely hate running so aim to do lots of walking along with a couple of pt sessions a week. I may try and do some stuff at home as the gym just isn’t for me. My weakness is I’m impatient and don’t lose weight fast enough for my satisfaction so give up easy. But day one of the healthy eating has gone well, just need to keep at it.

that's what the trainers are there for.

Just remember most gym goers are in their own world. And that everyone there knows the battle is against themselves, not others. In my experience there is very little judgement. And most of that is reserved for the person who hasn't left his ego at the door. It's very easy to not be that guy.

Meal prep is a great way to do this! For a couple of hours on a Sunday, you can have your breakfast and lunch sorted for the week. Check out Joe Delaney on YouTube who has some great meal prep ideas

Thank you!, it’s just silly little insecurities and not wanting to turn up , then being like “eh ok what now” . Maybe going with someone the first few times will make me feel better .

Great idea!. I love cooking for other people but when it comes to me I usually just make anything that’s quick and convenient at the time. Maybe if I had stuff already prepared I’ll be less likely to just snack on rubbish I’ll go have a look

"First of all.

I'd like to loose a stone or close to per month to reach my desired goal. Lost it before but put it back on

To lose a stone by getting back into healthy eating and cardio.

After a few weeks of cardio, add some resistance in an attempt to tone up a bit.

We will be cutting all alcohol out, eating relatively clean with the odd treat, hitting the gym 5x a week with a set plan.

We want to lose weight slowly and gradually as the last time we where working out properly we lost weight to fast and when the pandemic hit we just put the weight right back on.

Been finding it hard to get the right motivation ever since

We also want to get back into kick boxing

Goal to be more strict and less impulsive on my diet. I know the catch points but need to be more on it to stop myself derailing the good work I do.

I'd like to get consistent sub-20 5km runs with a buffer and sub-40 10k's. I've done half marathons and longer, but never officially run a marathon. Also want to do more trail and cross country running than same ol' road roads and find more adventurous events and places.

I'd also like to balance cycling time with water time (rowing and kayaking) and access and explore more areas.

I started back at the gym just before Christmas.

I'm only going once a week at the moment, my ME/CFS can take a beating if I ramp up too much too quickly.

I'd like, by the end of the year to be back 3 times a week and be deadlifting what I was pre my gastric bypass...

(Which was then 90% of my body weight, now would be 145% of my body weight...)

Between those and squats I want to get my ass back to what it was.

Why is the weight so important a better gauge is pullups as we are all built different.

Power to weight use your body as the weight. If you build mussel getting to you gaols it will slow you down.

Still at it but doing less CV as had a week off everything due to my boy being ill and off school. Took 10% off my weights but its ramped back up again and haven't done any CV in about 3 weeks now.

Weights wise I'm over 110kg on the Squats which is getting cheeky 3 times a week but still going. Deadlift I did 140kg 5x1 but my grip is starting to hold me back as I have to reset/take a break after each rep due to sore palms.

Pulled my neck/back doing OHP so on lighter weights with that and it's always been a weak point.

Eating everything I can lay my hands on but trying to be good.

Why not make it about the weight, if that's what motivates someone?

The majority of people aren't interested in measuring their strength against others, only bettering their own numbers regardless of how big or small it might be.

Newry Down

My objective is to slowly recover from the two bouts of Covid that I acquired: (one before it was called Covid-19) and also later the Omicron variant; and then incrementally improve my fitness to be able to walk marathon distance, with relative ease.

No rush, just gradual and continued weight loss.

Most importantly, I have implemented changes to improve my sleep, such as new lightweight thermals.

From experience, good sleep hygiene and lots of rest is vital.

I think I've come to the realisation that I can't put more muscle on without adding a bit more fat as well which I don't think is a good trade off. So I think I'm just going to maintain what I have by going gym 3 times a week and getting involved in more sports like football and table tennis for other activity and managing my diet a bit better.

Try to shake those menopausal few pounds that have snuck on, winter is a struggle for me due to SAD, so I naturally eat better and exercise more in summer anyway, don't really anticipate having to put huge effort in, I'm maintaining flexibility, could do with some weight training. With health issues and arthritis, slow and steady is the goal

My plans are going well.

Just over 1kg up in 11 weeks, waist has dropped by 1/2" so no lard going on.

Hit 180kg bench was first target that was easy, adding the next 17.5kg to that I reckon will take me a year based on the last time I hit those numbers.
