"I'm talking suit jacket and matching trousers with a nice shirt but no tie? Mostly I've been told that it's good to make the effort and I don't see it being any different to someone wearing a nice dress. However one friend has said I would be over dressed as nobody else does it (I've seen guys do it) what's your thoughts everyone? " Besides many women love the idea of unbuttoning a man's shirt.

"Depends on location and maybe time of day. But if that's what you feel comfortable in go for it. We would prefer a guy to make extra effort than non at all turning up in trainer's and scruffy jeans and a fleece. Mrs make much effort even for a mid morning coffee so yeah wear that. " I'm talking more social fab events but for a one on one I would probably wear nice jeans a shirt and possibly a nice blazer or suit jacket

However one friend has said I would be over dressed as nobody else does it (I've seen guys do it) what's your thoughts everyone? " The first time I went to a swingers club waaaaaaay back around 2009ish I wore a suit. No tie, but a nice shirt and a lightweight suit. Fuck me did I feel overdressed when I walked in and saw people in everything from jeans and t-shirts to not much more than a thong. But you know what? I stuck out like a sore thumb in a good way. As soon as people knew I was a newbie they realised that I'd tried to put as much effort in as I could in terms of presenting myself and nobody said anything negative at all. It also worked well in attracting the attention I sought. People were welcoming and chatty. I didn't lack conversation, attention or company all night. It was great. Of course when I went back the following week I lost the jacket but still wore smart trousers and a shirt. People remembered me. Go for it OP. It's seriously a good idea. In this weather if going for a coffee, I'd just go for a nice knitted jumper, jeans, and boots See I love getting suited, it doesn't happen often " That's fair enough, I saw your reply further up about it being for Fan events and in that case, just wear what makes you feel comfortable! "It's interesting seeing people saying that wearing a suit is too much. It partly depends on what 'your normal' is. I wear a three-piece suit, tie, cufflinks, pocket square, polished black shoes, and sometimes a buttonhole, for work. So anything less than that, for me, is dressing down. For someone who wears more practical clothes for work, a smart pair of chinos might be dressing up. Surely, OP, if you feel comfortable in it, and look great, then it's right for you? It's a cliché to say it, maybe, but anyone judging you badly for making an effort to look good is not someone you want in your life anyway. "

"No it isn't over dressed. I am always drawn to people who dress nicely. It doesn't need to be a suit it can be jeans and a shirt. Apart from today when I not well so look like four penn'orth of gawd help us I am probably always over dressed . My aunt was famously a little bit scruffy, when she died her wardrobe was full of hardly worn lovely clothes she'd been saving for best. Every damn day is 'best' " Thank you and I don't see why anyone buys clothes and doesn't wear them, if don't wear then I think they have too many

"Depends on location and maybe time of day. But if that's what you feel comfortable in go for it. We would prefer a guy to make extra effort than non at all turning up in trainer's and scruffy jeans and a fleece. Mrs make much effort even for a mid morning coffee so yeah wear that. " Same thoughts this end too

"You cannot be over dressed. Where what makes you feel good about yourself. Dress for yourself not others. Xx personally, I love a man in a suit xxx better than jeans any day of the week xx" I agree for social events, not sure I'd wear one to go for a swim though

"Depends on the suit and style. A cheap ill fitting suit makes you look like your mum has bought it for your first interview. A nice well fitting suit looks fab. Try to match it to the season. A linen suit in January, not so good but in summer, lovely. Saw a guy in a bar in Liverpool this week with a beautiful t suit, open shirt and nice shoes (very important), he stood apart from the others. His friend had heavy material pants, plain shirt with a type of knitted button up cardigan, he looked lovely too, again nice boots on. If you make an effort, comfortable and confident, you've nailed it. Good luck and have a fabulous night. " Yeah the fit is very important

"Organised socials Marc always normally wears smart shirt and trousers or a suit. Wear what makes you feel good as that's the important thing, I've probably overdressed in the past but I felt good and that's all that matters. Tinder " I think that's what is really important, feeling good about yourself

"OP, I'm 100+ replies in, so sure this will have been said MANY times before, but for me, this all depends where you're going and what feels natural to you? I love a suit, but personally probably wouldn't wear one for a social unless I was going somewhere where they might be expected (e.g. a really smart restaurant, but I assume not for an initial Fab social?) or happened to be coming straight from work... But if you feel good in it, that will shine through, so do it!" I'll just tell them I've come from an important board meeting
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) |
"Surely depends on the choice of social? If you’re going swimming probably a bit OTT but if you’re going for a meal somewhere fancy then not at all….. " I don't think I'd go swimming on a social meet, hot tub though

"You wear whatever you want. It is a reflection of who you are. Honesty goes a long way in getting to know people, and that is what socials are about." Exactly that

Some people could wear a thousand pound suit and look a mess, others hot looking like they've just got out of bed! For me good clothes give you confidence x" Definitely not a thousand pound suit but yes I agree that if you think you look good it helps with confidence

"Meh, fuck what everyone else is doing (within reason). It sounds like you have your heart set on it, if it makes you feel confident, wear it. Enjoy it. I think someone with the confidence to wear a well fitted suit to a social (or anything they love) with confidence will always be noticed. For the right reasons. " What about a tie ?
