I'm talking suit jacket and matching trousers with a nice shirt but no tie?

Mostly I've been told that it's good to make the effort and I don't see it being any different to someone wearing a nice dress.

However one friend has said I would be over dressed as nobody else does it (I've seen guys do it) what's your thoughts everyone?

couple, us we him her.

Depends on location and maybe time of day.

But if that's what you feel comfortable in go for it.

We would prefer a guy to make extra effort than non at all turning up in trainer's and scruffy jeans and a fleece.

Mrs make much effort even for a mid morning coffee so yeah wear that.

On fab though, I've noticed some women will see it as a turn off if you're suited. Each to their own!

Besides many women love the idea of unbuttoning a man's shirt.

No it isn't over dressed. I am always drawn to people who dress nicely. It doesn't need to be a suit it can be jeans and a shirt.

Apart from today when I not well so look like four penn'orth of gawd help us I am probably always over dressed .

My aunt was famously a little bit scruffy, when she died her wardrobe was full of hardly worn lovely clothes she'd been saving for best. Every damn day is 'best'

It's interesting seeing people saying that wearing a suit is too much. It partly depends on what 'your normal' is. I wear a three-piece suit, tie, cufflinks, pocket square, polished black shoes, and sometimes a buttonhole, for work. So anything less than that, for me, is dressing down. For someone who wears more practical clothes for work, a smart pair of chinos might be dressing up.

Surely, OP, if you feel comfortable in it, and look great, then it's right for you? It's a cliché to say it, maybe, but anyone judging you badly for making an effort to look good is not someone you want in your life anyway.

If you can, wear a waistcoat. Little says 'smart yet sexy' like a jacket off, open button shirt, waistcoat on*. You've begun the undressing process, but it's a hint, a promise, not a public floorshow.

* I think loosened black or white tie at the end of a formal evening is even more perfect, but that probably WOULD be trying too hard.

It was a very lovely one, thanks! Needless to say, I was awfully underdressed though, so make sure that if it’s a one to one meet, a suit is appropriate for the venue chosen, to avoid making the other person self-conscious about their fashion choices

Where are you meeting? If it's a Costa you might look out of place, depending on the suit material and style.

If she's in a skirt, blouse and heels people might assume you work together and are grabbing a coffee.

For sure, suits = happy horny me.

But it's a 5star courtesy to give the lady a cue like 'I'll be straight from work, hope you like a suited guy " or something flirty to whet the appetite.

Knowing the time and venue won't always tell her the dresscode to not feel under/over dressed.

Be that guy and she'll be halfway turned on not fretting over a fauxpas

Don't listen. Go with your gut.

Miles turned up looking amazingly smart on our first date, walking through park looking bit overdressed but owning it with amazing confidence

If your date is classy and smart dresser herself, she will only be impressed.

Use the opportunity to cover her trembling of cold shoulders with your jacket.. play with your top button. Show off your forearms rolling up sleeves casually. So much seducing material

Enjoy

"

Oh, I remember it well. Worked, didn't it?

No, it isn't overkill if you feel confident in it. If that is how you want to present yourself, do it. I've seen three-piece suits with tie and pocket square at an organised Fab social next to those who turned up in a polo shirt and jeans. Neither looked out of place.

Overkill would be white tie and tails, I'd say.

It depends on the suit.

Some people look good, and relaxed in a suit.

Others (me) look like it's been dragged out the wardrobe for a funeral or court.

A well fitting suit is wonderful.

Really must get one. Or get fit and be able to wear my current one.

Depends on the suit and style.

A cheap ill fitting suit makes you look like your mum has bought it for your first interview.

A nice well fitting suit looks fab.

Try to match it to the season.

A linen suit in January, not so good but in summer, lovely.

Saw a guy in a bar in Liverpool this week with a beautiful t suit, open shirt and nice shoes (very important), he stood apart from the others.

His friend had heavy material pants, plain shirt with a type of knitted button up cardigan, he looked lovely too, again nice boots on.

If you make an effort, comfortable and confident, you've nailed it.

Good luck and have a fabulous night.

OP, I'm 100+ replies in, so sure this will have been said MANY times before, but for me, this all depends where you're going and what feels natural to you?

I love a suit, but personally probably wouldn't wear one for a social unless I was going somewhere where they might be expected (e.g. a really smart restaurant, but I assume not for an initial Fab social?) or happened to be coming straight from work...

Wear that suit OP!

I’d love nothing more than to be going for drinks on a date and he turns up in a suit - never been so lucky

If you’re comfortable in a suit and feel confident and attractive in a suit, hell yeah, wear it!

"Mr will usually wear a shirt, smart jacket and jeans, shoes. Nothing wrong with smart at all!! Some people could wear a thousand pound suit and look a mess, others hot looking like they've just got out of bed! For me good clothes give you confidence x"

Definitely not a thousand pound suit but yes I agree that if you think you look good it helps with confidence

Meh, fuck what everyone else is doing (within reason). It sounds like you have your heart set on it, if it makes you feel confident, wear it. Enjoy it. I think someone with the confidence to wear a well fitted suit to a social (or anything they love) with confidence will always be noticed. For the right reasons.

"I’ve rocked up to a social in a suit on a few occasions, mainly because I was on the way home from work. Seemed to do the trick though "

Good to know buddy

It’s definitely not over dressed and like others have said as long as you feel good about yourself and confident then that’s all matters .

"Not at all , if you are comfortable and own it do it. But If you feel self conscious or unsure then it might come through.

Be brave - you live once. Women love men in suits. Wear a nice Italian silk tie - it will come in handy later "

I usually wear a leather belt, these are multi purpose

I love a suit. I love a well dressed man. If someone has made an effort it bodes well for their character I think.

Hmm. I love a good tie but only if it's knotted properly. Wherever it ends up.

"I like the nice stylish jackets with a shirt and jeans

With shoes or trainers?

Mr

Shoes. Trainers wouldn’t look right

Smart trainer shoes look ok with jeans as long as they're black I think "

I agree wear the wrong shoes with jeans and a shirt doesn’t look great.
