Hey guys
Just looking for your thoughts on using nicotine patches, to stop smoking with.
Anyone tried them?
Would like to hear your stories of using these, be they successful or not.
If not, did anything work for you?
Oh and which patches worked for you? |

Personally didn't work for me tried the gum also and didn't work neither did vape (with nicotine not strawberry etc makes me sick just smelling it in bypassing by people who have no care but to blow it in everyone and kids faces) |

I did try them and I tried the nicotine gum neither worked for me, the only thing that did was using a vape, but I do know people who the patches did work for. I'd say give them a try see what works for you, good luck with it though its not easy giving up. |

Try a MTL vape its simulates smoking. The smoke curls in your mouth and you can inhale deep or perform your usual smoking habit. The patches are sociological, not strong enough imo.
The elf bars you see are a good start for you, similar to cigs, can hold like a cig (cigar). You could start with few of the tobacco flavours, then move to fruity and others when confident you’ve kicked the stinkys |

Thanks Daisy, I'm going to need luck!
I did try patches years ago, can't remember the name of them but I did briefly give up. |

Patches work if you really want to stop you have to be ready. so slowly cutting down amount you smoke helps having a date set helps knowing that on that date your going to start to try and stop and being on the correct dose on the patches helps the lozenges Also help which has nicotine while using patches and remember to remove the patch before going to sleep as you don't sleep with a cigarette in your mouth |

".. Also… They have new tobacco replacement products now, like gum pillows and assorts of things
I'm really trying not to use a vape as it really hurts my chest.
Thanks though."
A vape won't help because you are still using the same breathing used to smoke a cigarette you're trying to restrict that part |

Unfortunately yes, I'm a outside smoker so certainly smoking less due to the weather. (Following this post though in hope of something else) |

This might be a silly remark but what do you think you will find the hardest part of giving up.
The addiction of nicotine, or the habit of hand to mouth brake at work for a smoke.
Both are hard patches will only help with one bit.
Also if you have a addictive personality that can be an ice that needs scratching so it can be easy to move an addiction to say excesis or reading.
But good luck to all thinking of giving up. |

The stop smoking services advise patches and a vape together nowadays. I think that’s a pretty decent way of tackling it if you're in the right head space. |

I had this conversation with my sister in law on Boxing Day. We both stopped using Champix, back in 2009. The motivation for me was I didn't want my kids growing up and remembering me smelling of smoke. Neither of us has smoked since, good luck OP. |

Patches and gum never worked for me, I tried them for maybe 2 years. My best friend getting pregnant gave me the bloody mindness and steely detmination to stop and that was 12 years ago
Oh and that was a cold hard stop, no weaning, else I wouldn't have been able to do it. I'll just have one more is a weakness of mine to put things off |

I have not smoked for many years. The only real way to quit is the true desire to do it. Like with everything, we make it harder for ourselves than it need be. Focus on the benefits rather than that very short period of time when the cravings are pushing you to has a smoke.xx |

My mum stopped the day I told her she was gonna be a grandparent for the first time. She said she wanted to be around to see our daughter grow up
Our daughter will be 30 next May and my mum still around and is now a great grandmother. You have to really want to give up and have will power. |

Another vote for the Dr Alan Carr "Easy Way To Stop Smoking" book here.
It was what made me stop for good 13 years ago after trying gum, patches etc... all of which made me stop but only for a few months. |

I’ve not smoked for over ten years now and did unsuccessfully use NRT on a number of failed occasions. When it came to the crucial success in quitting just went cold turkey and ain’t smoked since. |

Good luck with your quit journey OP - Patches just keep you out of withdrawal no where near what you would get from cigarettes so like others have said top up with a second NRT product like lozenge, gum, inhalator mouthspray etc. Or a vape. 10% of quitting is physical which NRT will help with 90% is psychological so get behavioural support too from your local services to increase your chances for of quitting for good. Google "smokefree" to find your local services.
Alan Carr is great I stopped smoking after doing the course back in 2000 & also bought the book after I relapsed lol only thing to note is he doesn't rate using NRT.
Oh & I'd recommend starting on 25mg 16 hour patches as they are the strongest (no point in 24 hour patches for most people as they don't usually wake to smoke during the night & nicotine is a stimulant so can keep you awake/cause vivid dreams.)
Anyway I'm waffling hope that helps keep us updated with your progress & don't give up giving up ...most people try on average 13 times before they do it for good xx |

Tried gum, patches and sprays, but one of them worked for me. Only vaping has ever worked. Have up smoking how shall we say herbal cigarettes a year ago tomorrow then smoking all together in March this year. Next will be vaping without nicotine, then hopefully all together.

Every time I've tried patches they make me physically sick and leave a rash where they've been stuck.
I did stop successfully using Champix...I'm not going to lie though, I was absolutely vile while I was taking them (think of the worst PMT you've ever had and triple it). I stupidly started again after about 5 years though
I have cut down a lot with vaping, and did cut cigarettes out completely for a while, which I really should do again |

We can set up an advantage scheme if you’d like.
A day without and you can have sex with Cara.
Two days without you can have sex with me.
Three days both of us at the same time.
A week and you can be bent over and spanked by either one of us…

Tried to copy text twice and it didn't work
I got help from the NHS in 2014. I was a 40-a-day smoker at the time and quit using a combination of patches and the inhalator thingie from Niquitin. Never looked back and never had a craving since. Though I think a huge part of it was that I was quitting for me, because I wanted to, if that makes sense |

Champix for me but be prepared for the side effects they can be pretty harsh.
You dont need luck, just a dogid determination. If you find yourself saying "I'm going to try to give up" then you've already failed! Positive mind set is what's needed.
Be prepared to change your routine and be prepared for the weight gain. And before anyone says it....it's not because you exchange food for smoking or you eat more because you can taste your food better. |

I've tried most things, combination of vape and lozenges worked the best for me. I think finding the right version of nicotine for you is key
I would say that the thing that really helped me was staying on the nicotine much longer than I felt I needed to |

I used the Allen Carr book. Surprisingly effective.
I would say I am not easily influenced by others but, the first time I used it stopped with no cravings what so ever.
FF 5 years, had some shit happen and started smoking again. 4 years later used the same book, stopped again with very few cravings.
Very effective. I had tried the NHS and that didnt work for me.
Good luck, I hope it works for you!! |

The only thing that worked for me was a vape, gave up about 10 years ago, gradually lowered the amount of nicotine and now just have menthol but I think it’s more about the habit of having something in my hand |

Patches only worked for me when I stuck them over my mouth.
The only thing which helped me stop smoking immediately was the correct E-cigs for me.
It took me a couple more years to quit the nicotine. |

This is the key thing for me, I've stopped twice for a couple of years twice because I wanted to, then went back to it and tried to stop since because I felt like I should and it hasn't worked. If you really want to stop you'll have a much better chance of it working |

Having a goal helps plus target, calculate how much you spend a year on tobacco. Then getting ready is important so you can reduce amount then let the patches assist or able to as patches only highest is 21 mg nicotine starts leaving the body within the first 3 days but you need something to distract you as well so exercise or gym helps further and mentally you feel better the first week you are free to reduce the patches and your sense of smell and taste come back where smoking really doesn't stink but helps to continue fighting... |

I’ve never felt addicted to nicotine so these wouldn’t work for me, it’s the action / feeling of smoking & smoke that I enjoy.
When my kids were born I just stopped. 17 years later working with smokers in Africa where they were so cheap I started again. I tend to smoke a couple a day max unless I’m in places where you can still smoke in bars / restaurants then I practically chain smoke |

So for you it was the habit not the addition that was the hardest. |
