What do you consider a reasonable commute to work? At present for me it’s 10 miles each way and via a tunnel under the River Mersey. Next Tuesday when I start a new job it’s 45 miles each way. If I move home to a dream location it’s going to be 75 miles each way. Does anyone else have similar journeys to work? |

I wouldn't be happy with anything more than an hour. In my opinion, commuting is lost time. You can't do anything "you" want to do, and you're not getting paid either.
My "commute" is 10 miles each way but I reclaim that time by cycling to work... which is something I love doing.

Solihull and Brentwood |
Unfortunately about 120 miles which has never taken less than 2.5 hours.
Though, I lodge down in Essex and I have 1.5 miles to and from work.
Could you work from home perhaps?
I work generally 10 hour shifts Mon to Thurs. Which then allows me to have Fri off, except when there's a push for drawings. |

I can be anywhere in the country as i work mobile. Anything under 2 hours is considered local, got to head North in a few weeks which is 4-5 hours each way (so hotel overnight but have done 3 hours each way for a simple job quite a few times).
Used to work 65 miles from home, which took about 1h20- although that didnt bother me too much as most of the traffic went the opposite way, so it was a fairly nice drive |

London, so can be any time. Used to travel 25 miles, if I left at 6.00 could do it in 30mins, 7.00 waa over an hour, school times would take 45 mins just to get out of the Borough. Since covid March 2020) commuting has ceased, maybe couple of times a month, but mainly a 20m walk to the garden office. |

15 miles each way still takes 25 mins, used to travel 60 miles each way, took 1hr 20 mins and that was pushing it, did it for 8 years would never do it again I ruined my car I had at the time crazy mileage, my advice is to move closer to work or work closer to home |

Mine an hour on the train or 30 mins driving
That’s ok for me |

Leeds + Newcastle |
My daily commute was Newcastle to Leeds which was fine in the summer and grim in the winter.
That's why I ended up buying somewhere in Leeds to stay mid week so I don't have to do it every day as it just wasn't safe |

I have two offices I can work from. One's a few tube stops away, but the other takes about 1.5-2 hours each way (public transport or driving).
It's do-able, but does feel like wasted time and makes for a crazy long day. I definitely wouldn't want to do it 5 days a week... |

Had many different journeys to work. Some of the best were a 10 minute walk or 20 minute cycle ride.
Before switching to WFH it was a 75 mile around trip. Two and half hours each day. You get used to it but I really don't miss it and only been into the office once since March 2020.
It's a balance, if the place you're living suits your family life. Then suffering a long journey to work is worth it. Home life is more important than work life in the end. |

My journey is 34 miles each way.. It takes me 60mins in the morning, if i go early enough and 1.40-2 hours in the evening depending on traffic
Its definitely worth asking about having a hybrid role - working from home part of the week, or even negotiating a 4 day week or 9 day fortnight |

Until recently I had been doing a two hour train journey each way to work in central London. It was a great career opportunity and I enjoyed the work but I’m now only 20 minutes away and I can’t describe the difference it’s made to my life |

I'm very close to where I work thankfully ,In the past I've had much longer commutes and it's been a pain . Especially if there's and accident or bad weather etc & it adds even longer on to your journey.
I think you spend enough time at work without having to travel way too long to get there and back. |

I will travel up to an hour each way. For the right job I've been known to stretch that to an hour and a quarter, but that was a 6 month contract I wanted for a specific purpose.
These days I want flexibility; max of two days in the office. If I can get those two days consecutively then distance is no object as I'm happy to stay in a hotel for a night.
Right now I do one day a week on site and my commute takes me around half an hour. That compensates for some issues I have with the job. |

I'm weird. Where I live now is about 5 minute drive to work and I wish it was longer. Only in winter cos car only just starts to get warm as I get out. But anything more than an hour is a bit ridiculous |

I used to commute to London. 6am train from Doncaster, just over 2 hours door to desk. First class is reasonable if you book a month ticket. I was usually the first one there followed by people who'd spent a similar time on a crowded tube.
Work from home for the past few years has made those days seem rather strange looking back. |

I used to travel 10 minutes to work but then took on a job which was a 45 minute journey each end of the day. I didn't enjoy it and I struggled to fit everything in that I had to do.
I moved jobs and now back to the 10 minute journey each end of the day. It's fantastic |
