Before you can say you’ve quit smoking?
Related question - how long before I admit I’m unfortunately celibate?
My point is, what length of time has to pass before it turns from trying to do something to actually doing it? Or are you ALWAYS in the phase of trying, just further along than you were.

I think celibacy is a choice. If you're just not having sex that is different. Don't get too down about it Woody, things often change when you least expect it. |

I believe that when you start telling people that you "HAVE quit" it marks a change of mindset from "trying to quit". Saying it proudly and often will help it become a reality.

The second you say you are a non smoker Woody, you are.
Repeat it to yourself periodically throughout the day.
When offered a cigarette respond with .... Thanks but no cos, i'm a non smoker.
Thoughts become words, words become beliefs , beliefs become behaviour , behaviour is who you are.

I haven't smoked for about 15 years or more. Prob 20 ish. |

I often think if I only had a little religious faith I'd have loved to be a monk. Lots of peace. Structure. Time to read and think. No emails demanding spreadsheets by 2 hours ago.
I've had years without sex where I was desperate for it, and years without where I was almost wholly untroubled. I suppose the only issue with the latter is it becomes a habit. Once you get to that stage with not smoking it must be great, but if not having sex becomes easier because you are taking measures - putting up emotional walls, etc - to ease the pain, it is also easier to fall into never having sex again.
Emotional walls, after all, have two sides. |

"Im not disagreeing but I do think it's not a good comparison.
Sex is natural, fun, good for you .
Smoking is unnatural, and very unhealthy.
Fair. But Woody started it, Miss! "
