Somewhere off the edge of the map... 'ere there be monsters |
Still very much a newbie and still exploring the wonderful world of whisk(e)y.
Funnily enough, I'd probably say that my favourite still to beat is also the very first bottle I ever bought for myself - Redbreast 12 year Irish whiskey. My favourite scotch so far is actually a bottle from Aldi, a 30 year whisky from 1988 I got for my 30th birthday. Second favourite is probably Highland Park 12 year... not yet brave enough to try Laphroaig 10 yet! But I'll get there, don't you worry.
I've mostly been drinking and exploring bourbons, though. No standouts yet as they're all quite similar. Maybe Elijah Craig 12? Or maybe Woodfood Reserve? Or maybe even Maker's Mark??
I'd love to dive into and explore Rye whiskey more, and maybe even Japanese, but that seems slightly silly to pay a premium on imported spirits that essentially are trying to mimic scotch, which is on the doorstep instead. |

Technically, Jack Daniels insist they are Tennessee Whiskey instead of bourbon, because they take all the steps needed to legally make a bourbon and then add an extra stage - the charcoal filtering - before it reaches the bottle. Which, for all intents and purposes means that it's a slightly mellowed out bourbon. |

And that filtering makes it non-vegan |

"You all need to stop drinking piss and get onto the MacAllan. I have Gold, 12 and 15 and to now 12 is my fave. Get a little lotto win and I’m getting a nice 18 year old. "
This is a lowland , ok for prinks easy drinking but not much bite I wouldn’t spend £200 on it |

As I said earlier Macallan gold for me.
If you want something with bite Ardbeg too strong for me much prefer smooth. |

Personally I would very rarely have a charcoal filtered green label jack Daniels which is lovely and smooth but the best I've tasted is the millennium whiskey from the Bushmills distillery the oldest distillery in the world and the only whiskey that can be spelt with an e and all others legally have to be spelt whisky. The reason is the same as the reason champagne can only be called champagne from the special region in France |

This may sound odd but after years of trying all the expensive malt whiskies ( which did nothing for me), I was given a bottle of Bells whisky for Christmas one year. To say that it hit the spot is an understatement. I never drink anything else now. |

At the end of the day it's what you enjoy.
Be it a Aldi own brand or a £23,000
Bottle of Macallan.
Like wine there's many snobs who frown on the commercial stuff available for the masses but it's your money and drink what you like and how you like. |

What a great discussion topic.
So many to choose from.
Single malt preference and quite like the orange flavoured whiskeys
Normally 10/12 year doesn't really matter about brand but once you get to 21year really notice the difference.
Most memorable glenmorangie signet |

"Any of the single malt species for me please.. do like the Cuban cask belvenie particularly "
Love the single malts. Especially those from the scotch whisky society (Google it) .. they only have numbers on their bottles to prove which cask it came from |
