Is Christmas a made up festival

Christmas (or the Feast of Christ) is supposedly to celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem (see "Bible - Gospels, New Testament"). However, we celebrate it in December because the pagan winter Yule festival (see "Yuletide") was at about the same time, ditto the Roman festival of Saturnalia and one of the Popes in the 300sAD decided to stick Christmas at about the same time (presumably to continue historical traditions of feasting and a holiday period at that time of year).
Jesus would not have been born in winter time. The Bible states that Mary & Joseph had to travel to complete a Census and it's likely a Census would have taken place in spring time. A guess is that Jesus might have been born between April and June (assuming that the Jesus of Nazareth who is recorded as having been crucified during the reign of the governorship of Pontius Pilate (AD26-36) was indeed the same dude the Bible claims is/was the son of god).

Traditions can span many generations and their origins may be forgotten. Pagan festivals git incorporated into Christian ones, including Christmas. Others cross boundaries between cultures, religions, etc. |

When we first crawled out of the primordial ooze we found santa throwing tinsel at a tree and thus Christmas is 100% not a made up festival.
It was only a couple of months later the first bunny laid its eggs for Easter, also 100% not made up.
Nature truly is breathtakingly beautiful in its majesty. |

Midwinter festivals existed for precisely this purpose for many thousands of years before Christmas was invented. |

The Origins of Christnas are well documented, and started in about 336 in Rome. The word is derived from Christe Maesse (Lattin for a Mass for Christ).
Historical research has previously suggested that the Person thought to be Christ was actually born in the June (Based on star maps).
The late December festivals coincide with Pagan Celebration of Winter Solstice, so this is the likely reason that the Christian Faiths chose to celebrate at this time. The 25th of December was unilaterally adopted for Christmas by Christian Churches in the 4th century. Whilst trying to convert Pagans to Christians, it would have been much easier, if their celebrations aligned.
It's also worth noting that the name "Santa Clause" seems to be a bastardization of Saint Nicolas and bears a lot of similarities with the Paga god Oden who rode through the heavens deciding who had deserved to prosper or perish.
There are similar alignments for other religious festivals too... the most notable being Easter which coincides with Celebrations for the start of spring and festivals for the Pagan/Anglo Saxon Goddess of Spring and Fertility "Oestre" (Pronounces Easter?)

Or my mistake of course to suggest it was Albert who brought the tradition to this country .. so many mistakes .. must try harder in 2023 |

The term "dude" always puts me in mind of baseball caps worn the wrong way round.

In the Northern Hemisphere.
They hadn't discovered the Southern Semisphere in those days.
Now they have artificial snow in Australia and New Zealand at Christmas. |
