How many Christmas cards have you actually sent through the post this year?
Me it's a grand total of one I sent before I fell out with someone, that's nearly a pint at Moonpig prices lol
To all the rest of you glorious bastards, it is a virtual one
Please consider this a card
Merry Christmas |

I'm surprised Christmas cards are still a thing.
We can skype, text and organise an whole family to chat on Zoom.
But we still send cards via post, or even more bizarre hand them to people directly.
I guess it's traditional and the thought/gesture of a card is nice, and if you're the sort of person that keeps cards they make sense... Or if you know the other person has no viable device enabling them receive texts.
But more often than not a simple text will suffice and will be much more economical.
Each to their own though, whatever makes you happy

I haven't sent any. It is a bit of a shame, I remember how exciting it was giving out and getting your cards in school when I was wee. And I have a few older relatives who still send one by post when I'll see them within a few days of it arriving , I know I should make the effort to reciprocate to them at least. I do feel guilty about that. |

It's a tedious task not without its pitfalls and challenges and I dread it every year.
Eg, person x lost a family member. It seems really insensitive saying, "Have a great Xmas!". Person y is clinically depressed, so any cheery card is just going to be trite and inappropriate.
And then I just run out of ideas on what to write beyond what's already on the card. Um, Happy Christmas, underneath the already printed Happy Christmas.
It's maddening and frustrating.
So yes, I would not miss the whole sorry affair with Xmas cards if it petered out. I think it was a nice gesture of a bygone age, but I feel it's somewhat archaic and unwarranted now in these contemporary times.
We've had a few from friends. I read one of them. It said, "Hope you have a happy Christmas".
I've not read the others, because I can guarantee they'll contain the same expected platitudes. Just like the ones I sent.
I should imagine the only people who really care are the card shops laughing at people blindly following tradition.

I’ve handed out 3 and will do a couple more. I got a really nice hand made one from the neighbours kid and a few from friends.
I can remember in the late 80s and 90s having hundreds up on the walls on string! |

I think this is a very good point. If you struggle with what to write you have to ask yourself why you are doing it. Likely for the wrong reasons.
Sending cards or giving gifts begrudgingly is such a common thing I hear but have have never felt myself. When people say I’ve no idea what to get them , I think to myself that’s because you don’t know them - why are you buying them anything.
The cards I’ve sent / will send have been to very important friends and family and I’ve wanted to send them & had no problem thinking of what to write.
I like the tradition now the numbers have reduced and it’s done for the right reasons |

I've sent four, delivered a few more. I quite like them, yes it's a tad archaic and daft but there's something nice about sending them to people who mean something to you (not talking about the obligatory once a year exchange).
I'm a big fan of letters and notes though so that undoubtedly colours my replies. |

None!!! Although the fact I'm actually spending this festive season anticipating Xmas with loved ones (as opposed to 100s of miles away living in cheshire) means I've saved on stamps!
Thank you for the virtual card xx |
