after a 3 month break from the gym ive started up again and flipping heck i ache.

what have you used and taken and recommend?

i used to have reflex whey ,it was nice tasting and mixed well, but ive gone on to nutri sport 90+ in 5kg tubs, should last a good while.

ive used creatine on and off but never seen much in the way of results

i did have jack3d before it got banned and that was really good stuff.felt like fire ants on your skin but really made your workouts intense.

I used to use Creatine, but i found it made me very moody so susie banned me from using it...lol

I use USN Muscle Mass twice a day. Its a bit expensive! Tesco have just put it up to £39 a tub which lasts me about 10 days. It does give good results though and the weight i lift has increased significantly. I do train 4 times a week and have a CV day too.

Works for me so maybe give it a go

niknak, i have just checked out your pics, and don't think you need any suplements! You have a great body as you are.

I have found that as i've got older, i have to keep training or i can lose all my strength and firmness within a week or so and it takes a cpl of weeks to get back to where i was.

By the way, that lady in your pics got pregnant vey quickly...lol same date pics, in one she is not preg and in the other she is. You have super sperm too

Personally I see supplements as nothing more than a huge waste of cash.

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

i cannot use any as the sport i am involved with does regular drug testing.

same make the body produce a chemical inside the body which can produce a fail.

i am also banned from taking medicines such as benylin, night nurse, codine and some energy drinks as they appear on the substance abuse list.

recently people discovered a way of using the supplement called muscle milk to create an anabolic reaction when taken with another chemical.

this make terrfic gains is lean muscle mass over a 8 week period, you only have to search on some bodybuilding forums to find out about it.

so i have to watch what i eat and take in a supplement. only one which i have taken inthe past which does not fall foul of the rules is maximuscle promax extreme as its passes iso17025 drug screening.

but if im honest with you. forget supplements. a good diet and hard work win every time.

Get mine from myprotein but all i get is some decent whey and a bag of oats for the morning and PW also good to help up the calories if needed.

Think most of the other things like creatine, test boosters amino's etc are just a waste of money and if your diets good you don't need them anyway.

That's something then. I can afford to lose an inch on my dick on a temporary basis for a couple of inches on my arms and chest on a permanent basis.

I go to the gym but mainly as cardio vascular cos I I'm veggie I don't eat a lot of protein really so finding muscle building quite difficult. What supplement would help with that?

Must confess I have not tried the other flavours as I have always been disappointed with straberry and I hate vanilla flavour anyway. I often use the protein shake as a breakfast "on the go" and find it keeps me full for much longer than any traditional breakfast.

A really good clean balanced diet with lots of quality protien!!

Some suppliments can play a role depending on your sport and training regime but you have to be careful not buy into it all too much.

Remember to have lots of sleep, good food and plenty of water!

Yep you have got to keep it up.Another tip if your looking to build muscle, don't worry so much about cardio.Just concentrate on weights with maybe just a couple of 20 min cardios a week..

In general terms I would agree that the bulk of one's diet shoud be natural unadulterated foods. Having said that, I aam not overly fond of eating too much meat/ fish/ eggs so I am replacing some of that protein through supplements as a tasty, vegetarian alternative. I think as so often in life the answer is not either/ or... it is about a compromise.

BCAA 312 Amino Acids

Creatine

Fish Oil

Whey Protein (not on weight loss days)

Shred Matrix fat burner (Occasionally)

Multi-Vitamin

Pre & Post workout supplements

Most of the products are from Muscle Pharm. I usually train 5-6 days per week 3-4 hours per day. I've tried training without supplements and have noticed differences in my performance, but not all supplements are as good as they advertise.

They are a magical ingredient, compared to all the supplements that cost a shit load of money and do nothing. Not magical if you think you still don't have to work hard in the gym and eat well etc.

If you can eat all the protein you need In your diet then fab, well done. Hubby has his shake before bed and I have mine post workout.

Hubby is following the Derek Poundstone diet, he has 1kg of chicken made into shakes for his lunches... That's a protein shake! Lol

I wouldn't say their a waste of time and money as it depends on the person who's taking them, what gains they want and more importantly and as you mentioned, a good diet.

If you can get your bodies protein requirement post workout without supplements then you'll be saving your money. if like me, you can't eat post workout then supplements are needed.

Let's not forget, protein helps muscle repair and grow so to simply discount it as a waste of time isn't quite true. Some people train much harder than others do their requirements will differ greatly.

Hubby here

Supplements are just that, to supplement your diet. When I say diet I mean eating habit.

If your diet isn't in place then supplementing is a waste of money. If your training isn't in place, supplementing is a waste of money. Steroids are just another supplement which if everything else isn't in place are a waste of money.

The emphasise should be on whole foods first before adding supplements, the basics should be a good diet dependent on your goal, multi vitamin, omega 3 oil, and lots of water. Once you have all that in place every day, and training hard, then look to supplementation to aid your recovery and progression.

So if you were a model or athlete then it's justified?!!!

Steroids have no place in the gym and are for people who don't like hard work. Most people know about them so there's no excuse for taking them, stay away, your body will thank you for it.

Training on steroids is harder than not. Everything needs to be perfect, your diet needs to be nearest dam spot on, you need to be training like an animal, sleeping well, other wise they bite, plus there is the whole which ones, how much, pct, water intake, people who think they can be lazy whilst on gear have no idea.

That goes for any supplementation, do your research before taking anything, don't take bro science as fact or what you read in the papers,

Really? Its only the top guys and girls who are any good at the movements, everyone i see people doing it i think its an accident waiting to happen. I think he should try to lift weights first before trying at anything. For most being a gym rat is enough.

Testo boosters if your wanking or shagging often as helps with cum load.

CrossFit, definitely :D if people are performing movements wrong then their getting poor instruction if any. The gym I attend has a great beginners course and overall the instructor to student ratio is 3:15 per class. That's not bad when some gyms are 1:20avg.

There seems to be this big misconception with CrossFit that only the top boys and girls can do it and it's so far from the truth. Everybody has to start somewhere in a given discipline. How can one lift 150 when one can't move correctly?

People can start Crossfit even when they've never trained before, that's why we have beginner courses.

I take supplements because its not as easy as people think trying to eat the amount of clean calories you need a day to build good clean muscle ... I'm a hard gainer and the thing that pisses me off on forums they say "no such thing as a hard gainer, you just don't eat enough."

Exactly you need to eat more, but thats not always so easy. There are time in the day when your just not hungry and facing food is not what you want to do.. This is why so many people take supplements.Maybe i should blend my meals or eat baby food

I read that somewhere too. I drink a glass everyday plus what's in chocolate dairy milk.

Blending food is the way forward, I (the Mrs) have really struggled getting used to eating 6 times a day, but now I'm constantly starving lol. Difference is I'm only eating 1500 kcal not 6000

It may have been an article by nutritionist Alan Aragon, where he basically wrote that a current, super-hyped up workout recovery supplement was utterly outclassed in every area by a simple store brand chocolate milkshake.

but there are lots of articles saying the opposite.

taking a shake is easier and say a shake has 30g of protein,to have a meal with the same frequency would cost a lot more.

if more is no object meals would be the ideal.

as for people thinking steroids are an easy option, they are wrong.

some of the companys try and baffle with science but its easy to read through it all.

Protein is what repairs your muscle. High protein with low carb protein powder is what I use if I haven't eaten much meat.

Nothing else other than cod liver oil and multi vitamin.

That's correct. There are quite a few of them on the market also. I can't comment on which ones are the best as I've only used them once but coupled with fat burning exercise and diet they work great, for me anyway.

I am a senior sports coach and also deal with rugby players attached to a professional sports club and supplements are really not needed with correct diet and most people using a gym are not training hard enough to require them anyway.

If you are you need to take on about 2g of protein per 10kg bodyweight per day but a good tasting easily accessible source for this is chocolate Frijj (about 20g in a bottle) available in every supermarket for about a quid.

I don't do a lot of gym work but play a lot of sport and to supplement this I eat cakes and drink a lot wine and beer.

Hope this helps.

Funnily enough when I played RL me too. In fact I used to play better when slightly hungover!

I suggest you stroll casually along the appropriate shelves in Holland and Barrett, as you peruse, be eating a huge doughnut as you ask the assistant about 'instant fat burning pills'.

Fat burners you can buy off the shelve have very little in them that will help, normally mainly caffeine, with added green tea extract, and the latest fad ingredients, along with their own patient ingredients. How ever if you were to try a buy a few things not so legally/banned substances, you'd get far better results. (T3's, Ephedrine, Growth Hormone)

But again, if the diet isn't in place, and the training is only half hearted, its a waste of money buying anything extra.

They do work but in my experience you need a strict diet and a strict fat burning exercise regime. The product I use may or may not work for you. I would suggest doing some research into how they work and make a purchase from there. You need to know what's going into your body. Speak to people who know the products well, unfortunately Holland & Barrett do a bad job of this, but that could be he store I went into. Better still have a nutritionist on speed dial :D

I tried grenade today (the one you mix with water) holy bugger... Felt like I was speeding my nuts off. Did my workout, enjoyed it and felt great after.

Though an trainer at gym did ask if I was okay as I looked kinda spaced.

Going to use rest of the tub, see how it goes.

Just out of curiousity for those of you who actually do use supplements, what are your best lifts in the gym?

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

get some carbs and protein in you from a meal an hour before gym, then a whey isolate or regular whey protein drink for after

casein protein drink before bed or a tub of cottage cheese which also has the slow release pro(casein) in it

other than that eat well and take ur multi vit, cod liver oil and extra vit C
