I was just pondering and realised I've never driven a lorry. Not even been in a lorry. Or even looked inside one.
In fact, I know nothing about lorres.
Do lorry's come in automatics like some cars do ?
(I was actually pondering if automatic cars have to be driven in a particular way in snow (carefully I imagine and you cannot use the gears to brake like you can in a manual) and then I wondered "I wonder what lorries do?" and then I leaped to wondering if they came in automatic versions as well ?)

"You should go hitch hiking OP. Most drivers are alone and I'm sure happy for someone to chat lorries with."
Reminds of the joke about a lorry driver who picks up a hitcher and says "Aren't you worried I might be a serial killer?" and the hitcher replies, "Nah, the chances of two serial killers being in the same vehicle are pretty remote"... |

"If you look carefully on a lorry driver's shoulder, you will find a chip even larger than those served on a Wetherspoons all day breakfast."
I’ve always though about driving one but I don’t think I’d have the due care and attention needed so I’ll stick to my van.
I’ve drove a few over the years at work in the yard and spent a few years looking after a fleet of them. Last thing I would want to be is a driver the way they are treated.

There's no need to tarnish us all with the same brush!
There are plenty of ars3h0le truckers out there.....I work with several unfortunately.
For example if someone can't wait to get past me then I will back off a little, especially on a dual carriageway, unless climbing a hill whilst loaded.
There are definitely plenty of muppets out there harming the reputation of the decent ones though.
When not working every week driving a truck on nightshift, I'm often helping my family on the farm.
So considering the fact that I might be driving a Tractor, 4x4, HGV, or riding a Motorbike, I have a greater awareness than the majority of impatient arrogant muppets out there cocooned in their tin boxes.
I'm not saying that last statement applies to you, just trying to ask you to be a little more open minded, as we're not all the same. x |

I was suprised how easy they are to drive.
In between jobs a few years ago I helped a friend set up a company and one day he asked me to get a 7.5 ton truck out of a yard connect up a trailer, drive 10k pick up a x-hire mini digger , put it in the trailer, rope it up and drive 100k to deliver to a site in Coventry
I literally shit myself, not literally, but literally but it was ok once I figured out the padlock on the yard , and reversing with a trailer, everything else went smooth.. Having to go to Coventry was an awful experience but sometimes you gotta get out your comfort zone
People stay out your way and you’re up so high with great mirrors it feels very safe. City centres & traffic even are easy, no one gets in your way |

I'm curious about the sleeping bits. Does the bunk fold up? Do you have a kettle or fridge? Are there cupboards to store yostuff in? Is there a table?
(And before anyone says anything, I'm not looking for a 'guided tour'...) |

Most lorry drivers that are away from home all week have fridges , microwaves ,tv and plenty storage for clothes and food. Most have bunk beds in them the top one will fold up and the main bed is very comfortable well the ones I drive are. A great night heater as well it’s a home on wheels |

I love my lorry, automatic with the option to use gears manually, been driving then 20 years , manual better for off road use but the auto is nicer on road especially in traffic as it's easy to get pissed off changing up and down in stop start traffic but that's my opinion, you'd be surprised how easy they are to drive, mine has shit loads of buttons in cab but you only use then at certain times so they just look complicated xxxx |

I’m curious if there is a button for overtaking at about 0.2 mph faster than the other truck, that can only be engaged at the bottom of a long fucking hill without the use of mirrors and with a car approaching you significantly faster? |

Some are red, some are yellow
Lorry drivers are the most skilled out there along with the emergency services who travel at high speed when need to |

But we are still classed as normal drivers don’t get a discount on car insurance like an advanced driver would and we take more tests |

Of course the lorry being overtaken can't possibly back off for 5 seconds to let the other truck get past and pull in ASAP as its so much fun pissing off the 50 car drivers who are stuck behind the truck overtaking ! And after blocking the whole road for about 10 minutes when they get to the next roundabout they pull up behind each other! Professional drivers my arse !!! |

That's a bit strong.
Like saying everyone on FAB is a drama queen or gobshite and that would be a tad misleading. |
