I find it pointless I don’t look at my winks
I also find that if they can’t pluck up the courage just to send a message
Then what’s it going to be like them trying to pluck up the courage to meet me |

"they are lazy..."
After 10 years in Fab, I can count the number of first messages from single ladies AND couples on one hand. Winks, on the other hand (see what I did there? ), have started many a conversation, and resulted in many great shared times |

Winks can be an ice breaker for some obviously must've read the bio to send one showing some interest. It's one of those where a woman may wink in real life but expect the guy to make the first move she's unable to play with her hair |

I only send winks....its a way of saying I like your photos /profile if you like mine let me know.
Beats sending a detailed personal message that you've spent time to think of and get deleted 99% of the time |

The proplem is some look at them some don't so when you wink you have no idea which camp the winkee is in. I look at them about one a week and read the profiles of any winker in Reading as location is important to me. If i like the profile I'll wink back. |

They work just fine if both parties use them, but lots of people don't. It seems a shame if someone's thinking the person they winked isn't interested when actually they'll just never see it. I'd always go with a message. |

"I bulk delete winks. I prefer a message. I also bulk delete friend invites from guys who don't bother messaging either. "
I leave mine there cause it stops them from sending another for at least 30 days lol |

"Using them with a Msg is prob the best way to use a wink or when seeing an old friend you haven't spoke to for a while on here."
So effectively your day the wink is pointless if you're going to message them anyway |

It reads to me...a wink and a message works best. |

I send winks more often than messages. Nearly all if I like profile or looked at mine. Yes can work . But may not. My thought has been . If profile looked at , so can see . You like that profile and send wink. I did see that profiles responded to wink . Yet stated not interested in my age , single male etc . So could not contact .? |

I like the Wink, i dont always spot them immediately but i dont mind checking somebody out after receiving one. I will sometimes send one myself if I'm not sure i fit what theyre looking for after reading their profile. As has been been said already though, not everybody checks them so theyre very hit n miss |

They're ok but would not gain priority in comparison to someone who has taken their time to message me. Tendency to delete winks more often than not (lazy form of communication). Much rather receive a message in lieu of a |

Yes I get my meets from guys winking or vice versa. I prefer winks as initial step then prefer them to message me after we winked at eachother |

"they are lazy..."
That may be true but it is very annoying having taken the trouble to write a message that just gets deleted. So I thought doing a lazy "wink" could be a way of contact, if the person does not respond then fair enough nothing lost. Maybe it just doesn't work how it was possibly intended |

"We love a wink - there’s either mutual appreciation in which a message gets sent or not.
When you’re dealing with hundreds of messages it’s a super quick way to respond. "

I like a guy to put some effort in. Hitting a wink button takes even less thought than messaging 'hi/wwu2/faf' |

So what would you personally do (and I can generise what most do) when you have many, possibly hundreds of messages and each and everyone has put some sort of effort into a message? Several paragraphs maybe.
And each one includes a photo and your not interested. You understand where I’m leading here.
I think the wink button has a hard time, i think it was supposed to be an icebreaker but it’s got a reputation along the way as lazininess. Users will use a website as they think fits I suppose.
*had to add who I was replying to. |

I absolutely get where you are coming from Woody. I know what the wink is intended for and I feel crap about the genuine guys who have taken the time to ready my (long) profile and send an articulate and original message but are buried in the 1200 unread messages. Even if I'm not interested, they are worthy of a polite 'thanks for taking the time to message but it's a no thanks' reply. Trying to sort the wheat from the chaff in my messages AND checking out who has winked at me just isn't an option. Maybe it's time I turn my usual approach on its head and block messages from single guys but encourage winks and go Bumble style. |

There’s no point in winking us because don’t respond to them and never have. We want to see people’s personalities coming through in a message because also helps filter in or out the people may or may not like. The people who we’re interested in are the ones who send us a good message and we like the look of them.

For me a wink is to show that you are interested in that person, if you get a wink back then great, I then initiate a conversation.
I like a lot of people on here have spent hours writing messages to people to get it deleted, or worse still having the message ignored with out it even being read! |

Winks are a great ice breaker and an indication they are interested. If I get a wink back I’ll be more inclined to send a message and take it from there.
I rarely send first messages as they just get lost. So the wink & wink back gives me some hope they’d reply if I sent the first message. |

"they are lazy..."
They are not lazy it’s just the bar has been raised for men to make more effort. Women send winks to let you know they are potentially interested and require a full application from you

That’s how they should be used yes. But I think women get so many messages they don’t check winks. Maybe it would he better if you had to wink and wink back before you could message someone , that’s how other apps work you can’t just spam anyone |

For a guy receiving one no absolutely not, it signifies they are interested so you can send a well thought out message referring to profile and send a face pic, if you're lucky they like your look and off you go |

Yep, pretty much this. Even if they don't message, it's better they wink as at least it shows some sort of interest |

I think winks are a good idea of showing interest.
But I find that when I've recieved them first, I will reply with a message and get nothing back. Other times I'll just see that their profile is private |

"What’s the point of composing a message using the context of their profile if it only gets deleted. Id sooner use the wink process and of I get one back start chatting. "
This. I like them personally. The initial message just comes down to ‘I’m interested, want to chat’, and a wink does that more quickly. I like receiving them too. |

It’s a good point. Though I try (normally fail) to add something clever, the first message is generally just an amalgam of my profile and what, from their profile, I think they want. I really ought to use my time more efficiently. |
