couple, us we him her.

Who makes the best?

I'm not talking your Nan or aunt.

I mean commercially available for anyone to buy?

A good mince pie is,moist but not overly.

Sweet but not sickly.

Pastry firm but crumbly.

Flakey or short crust??

The normal M & S are very good, but their special edition is the best.

Regrettably, I find all mince pies extraordinarily sweet; they're overloaded with sugar.

Carlisle usually

Whichever have the least packaging so the damage to the environment is minimised when they're immediately flung into the bin.

No uttering please!

Lidl do superb mince pies.

I bought a rich Christmas cake for Euro8, which is the best cake of its type that I have tasted in a long time, but tastes vary

It was moist, succulent, a really good rich flavour, loads of dried fruit, none of which were gritty, which can sometimes be a problem with Christmas cakes.

I would thoroughly recommend it; in fact I bought another two today, to tide me over for the next month, or less!
