Work Christmas Parties
Jump to: Newest in thread
My place hasn't had one for three years, and I haven't been to one for two years before that, so this year I am looking forward to it. It's just a social, unorganised (beyond a meeting point and time) pub start, no pressure, turn up or don't kind of thing.
Not cringe from my perspective, but ask me on the Monday afterward! |

"Good fun and great to socialise and unwind with your colleagues or a forced fun cringe fest that you hate and have to endure each year? "
Like anything else. The success or failure depends entirely on those attending. All the company can do is lay on the facilities and environment. The rest is up to you to make of it what you will. A great night with people that you spend more with than your own family and friends or a cringe fest or somewhere in between. |

I'm old.
Most of my colleagues are young enough to be my children.
And so vanilla, judging by the conversation in the office.
Also it's 'black tie'
But what the hell, I've not been out much recently. I'm driving, so (probably) won't embarrass myself. |

"Definitely Not a fan
Ours is this Friday
Not invited anyway
Does hurt a bit won’t lie
But I will get over it
"
How have you not been invited?! Isn’t it all department / company one? I’ve never heard of invite only work parties? |

Leeds (Home) / Sheffield (Work) |
My friend works in a company where they book out a venue and stay the night. People shagging in the bathrooms, bedrooms, estate gardens etc. Sounds fun. They hire entertainment acts and everything.
My workplace has parties where people can’t turn their informal side on, and it gets dry within the first few minutes. Certainly avoiding! |

My last works do ended with two managers in A&E, one junior absolutely paranoid believing he was about to be fired and possibly arrested, one senior picking a fight with a doorman who was more than a foot taller than she, before telling the taxi driver she hoped his dick dropped off and he died a slow and painful death.
Oh, we lost one bloke and couldn't track him down at all (turned out he'd fallen asleep and we'd moved on without noticing - when he woke up we'd all gone so he went home).
Wouldn't mind, it was small team do, only 9 of us went.
Sadly I can't swerve it, I need to show my face but I'll leave straight after the meal and I won't be drinking. I can't face another night like the last one. |

I'm going to mine and always look forward to it. I feel sorry for those people who don't like their work colleague because in reality, we spend half our waking life with them and I've actually made some really good friends from past jobs who I still keep in touch and go out with. |

Got a new job this year so first Xmas party with this lot. Open bar and no work the next day announced, pretty sure I'll organise myself some late night fun afterparty with a non-colleague person somewhere |

A few years ago I was on the senior management team of a large company who organised a huge Christmas party every year with a free bar… we had our end of year Board meeting just before the party and used to run a sweep stake as to how many would end up getting fired due to outrageous behaviour during the party … they did get wild |

"I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than spend anymore time pretending to like most of the people I work with "
Loool. I can relate! Ours has just been cancelled due to train strike. Yaaaassss! Planning an alternative with the small number of non-cockwomble colleagues |

I don’t even know if my work has anything planned. I only liked one of my coworkers, we were really good friends but he found another job and left me with all the twats |

Where I work now we tend to have our own little groups go out rather than a party! Going for our meal this Friday! Just 6 women! We do this once a month anyway! Good way to catch up as no time to talk at work we usually sit till they ask us to leave we do chat alot x |

"Amazing how many people are doing jobs where they dislike and insult there colleagues so much. Too cool for school? "
Not at all. I would just rather not talk shop or get cornered by the d*unken office bore yapping on about bib shorts and chamois cream |

I normally really enjoy then - the opportunity to get glammed up, get d*unk (at works expense) spend the evening on the dance floor and then collapse into a cosy hotel bed. And it's normally the only opportunity for me to partake in a full on Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings (I don't bother for just me on Christmas day).
This year the 'party' was at a well known high street pizza joint (on the flippin 1st of December!) a 10 minute walk from my house... with a festive menu that made me feel nauseous just reading it, let alone thiking about eating it!
Sorry to say I swerved that and had a lovely evening at home wrapping pressies, watching a Christmas movie and drinking gin in the warmth. |
