Misogyny if thats the right word ..

The problem is that those who do it don’t actually recognise it for what it is. They think it’s normal, fair and everyday stuff. And so when they are called out, they can’t handle confronting that they are in fact awful people, they can’t defend something that they don’t even see, so they’ll just double down on being normal meaning you get more shit, only now you’re the problem the the victim.
As with any human behaviour, it will always exist. It’s not as bad as it used to be, some who think this way do eventually be self aware enough to only do it with an audience of like thinking awful people, but some also double down on being picked on for being called out and these are the dangerous twats. It’s like being a hypochondriac where men feel excessively and unduly worried about feeling inferior. |

The more we are not offline social and community grown, the bigger the problem will become. The Internet has a lot of impact on people and opinions are easily swayed by popular people and trends. Hopefully the new online bill will give help for the misguided kids, as empowering them with the power to be able to challenge opinions is a good start |

As was said in the post I put up a few weekd back re the Incel movement documentary on C4....
Pre Internet this kind of abuse, whether aimed at women by men, or men by women, would have taken place face to face between people and if in a closed environment such as a pub, social club or anywhere else, would have been largely shouted down there and then and not tolerated. Guys verbally abusing women in pubs would most likely have ended up on the floor. Women doing the same to men would have been dragged off by their peers and told to calm the fuck down. People dealt with things differently.
Online? People will rant, vent, throw abuse and behave without consequence because they feel safe hiding behind a screen and keyboard. They will blame the opposite sex for their issues and I adequacies rather than talk to friends or look at their own behaviour. They will actively seek out those who they feel are in a similar position for positive reinforcement and acknowledgement that they are the victim, rather then the problem and online communities grow where hatred of the opposite sex becomes the norm and their ideas a spread to others.
It won't change til people seek help.
From the right sources - family, friends, professionals - not the online communities that thrive on building a culture of hate and abuse.
There's no easy solution, little light at the end of the tunnel right now and not much hope of online abuse declining at the moment.
On here? Report and block.

I agree with much of what you say, but I think it's actually becoming worse again. The stats on violence against women and girls are horrendous, sexual harassment in schools is rife and evidence shows it's all becoming more commonplace. |
