Go running then have a hot bath. That's what I would do were I not feeling lazy. Emotional situations will make you lie awake asking yourself 'what if' questions and stuff like that and it achieves very little so you consciously have to try and stop it. Think about it as a new start rather than an ending. It is a new year soon anyway. Unless it all ends on the 21st.... Make a list of things you can do now that you couldn't do before and then do them. Ooooh! And cost them too in a spreadsheet. That will certainly send you off to do something else. |

As someone who suffers from both insomnia and sleep disturbances at different times I know lots of cures:
Give yourself a set bedtime routine like children have.
Keep your bedroom just for sleeping, no tv or reading or computer/smartphone.
Have a warm bath (not really hot) before bed, wind down with quiet music.
Have a milky drink (tryptophan can aid sleep).
Ensure your bedroom is a good temperature, no draughts, your pillows are comfy, your room is dark. Put some lavender oil on your pillow.
Practice relaxation/meditation techniques when you get in bed - classic one is to isolate and relax muscles in turn beginning with your toes. |

And if all else fails I find getting.up and doing something then going to bed again can help - I often head out for a walk or do some late night shopping then do my whole bedtime routine again when I get back.
Nightol can help. Buy the one from behind the chemists counter, but try not to use too often as you can get used to it.
And if all else fails join the insomniac crew who haunt this place! |

I did that as well, i did it on the sleep hygene thing i did.
Ive even been to the sleep clinic and have had to go to bed with monitors on.
3.45 it is now and think i dosed of for an hour. Sleep deprevasion is under rated, they did it to people in the war.
When my body just cant cope any more i end up sleeping for about two days straight simply cause my body has to shut down |

I find I can still nap during the day. I can get two or three solid hours of sleep which makes a big difference.
But that can add to the problem by making me less likely to sleep at night. Sometimes though I'm just so weary I go for the nap. |

Apparently you should never stay in bed if you can't sleep, get up and do something.
When you feel tired try again, if it doesn't work get up.
Stay up during the day and do things to make yourself tired - exercise is good for insomnia (and low mood) - go for a swim and brisk walk or what ever you do but do it.
Hang in there, sleep will be yours soon
