like the harder ones like gruyere, manchego, kefalotyri, compte etc. But also like a good blue cheese or some soft ricotta from time to time and of course could not do without some feta or a bit of mozzarella. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Comté, Jarlsberg, Gruyère, Vacherin, Manchego, Vintage Cheddar and Stilton. Served with quince paste and fig jam, with water biscuits.
Oh my lord, Nero. Need any help with that? "

@Mrs TMN, it's not just a cheeseboard, it's a turophile's smörgåsbord! When are you coming down??? |

Godminster cheddar, but it’s a bit expensive. Lidl’s West Country cheddar is actually made by Wyke Farms, is cheap and really good.
Otherwise, Godsell’s Single Gloucester and if you can get it the aged one called ‘Singing Granny’ is delicious.
In terms of non West Country cheese, I like sheep’s milk cheese, especially the Spanish cheeses, would like to try more!

"I love a cheese board too my favourite is the smoked Applewood. Always have to wash the cheese down with some Port ."

"Comte. But I can't understand why our cheesemakers can't replicate Alpine cheeses. A lot of our mass produced cheeses are pretty grim. "

I'm sure there are plausible reasons but I'm •guessing• it's because of the altitude, pasture/grass, the genus of the cow/sheep... ![](/icons/s/2/idea.gif) |

Cheddar. It’s number 1 and nothing comes close.
But. I do like blue cheese, became a fan of Stilton last year.
Brie is amazing.
And Goats cheese is a winner!
All the cheese is good. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"Love a cheese board except blue cheese. What cheese is your fav "
I used to be same but over the years I've let curiosity move me to the dark side. I actually like the strong flavours and creaminess of blue cheese now, but only in moderation.
My favourite can depend on who good the examples are of each cheese on that particular cheese board. So basically my favourite is the cheese I find the best tastiest on that board on the day. However on the whole it tends to be a deep flavoured cheddar or red Leicester. |
