Would you get a personalised car number plate, and what would it be?

"No.
For a couple of reasons
1) I think they look pretentious
2) I think the numberplate assigned to the car when it’s first registered should stay with the car. It’s part of its identity. "
Does the car also have feelings? |

I already have one, it's my name
Did consider removing it cause it makes my car really recognisable but decided not to
It's mine and it cost me a pretty penny |

I had a personalised plate. People made assumptions about me based on it but that's on them, not me. We only have one car now and the plate is personal to Mr N.
If I could choose any plate it would be

I always find it so strange that people make assumptions based on people having private plates
I get it all the time as well |

The funny thing is years ago I had a plate that spelled a name, not my name but a name. Blimey I took some stick for that and it wasn't even personal to me |

I have two, one suits the car perfectly as it’s to do with the make and model the car. But it came with the car when I bought it. The other plate also came with the other car too! Not sure what that says about my choice in plates |

I don't understand the personalised plate thing, I mean they don't like it when you say "Dave you drive like a prick", they ask how you know their name, it's plastered over your car? I'm not sure why people give their names to random strangers, it probably is just me, I just don't get it.

We have sex with random strangers but telling people your name is a step too far? |

I have one on my car, which was a gift from my Dad so I'm never going to get rid of it.
100% relates to me as well as it includes the month and year I was born and my full initials so couldn't be more accurate.
Not all personalised numberplates were purchased for the "look at me, look at me" status. |

I saved money by paying just a few quid to change my name from what it was to the number plate on the car I bought.
Seems odd signing documents as A431 DUQ but I soon got used to it......

I have a personal plate that has MX5 and SUZ on it... I've moved it from car to car three times now (twice on NB's and now on a NC... Looking forward to getting a ND in the future).
White Van Men have a habit of driving very close to my rear end ... woohoo... I slow down... and they get bored and drive off! Booo... Lol |

Of course they are.
I'm not saying that is/isn't wrong, but that is clearly what they're for. "
How do you reach that conclusion? |

Used to have one on a car related to a business I had, not that interesting, but 2 local ones made me laugh - P 5 OUP on a lime green Z3, and PEN 1 S on a Merc convertible - yes it really did exist! |

Everyone on the A1 doesn't know my name |

Plus I said I didn't understand it not that it was wrong.
Plus I don't have sex with random strangers I tend to converse before handing my name out. |

Because if it's not to be seen, people would just have a normal number plate. I would have thought that's obvious?
Please note, I was very clear in stating that this is not a judgement. |

What if its a life long gift from a parent?
Never would a parent have that attitude about their own child.

Only personalised plates that are genuinely out there for that reason are the ones that spell silly or rude words. Those private plates are done on purpose, not all of them are. |

A couple of people have stated it's for other reasons e.g. In tribute to their father. My plate was on meaningful to me but only people who know me well would have known it's significance. I don't doubt some people have a personal plate to attract attention (fine by me) but not all. |

I don't think that changes anything. And to reiterate yet again, I am not saying it is wrong.
Yet, if it is just a loving gift one is not obliged to actually put it on a car. Once the plates are put on a car, they are clearly different and intentionally so. Thus, they are about attracting attention (even if that is for delightfully lovely reasons). |

I’ve 2 personalised plates, combined cost £250, one is my mums name, my mum owned it on the original car it was put on and had it on all her cars until she no longer had one, so now I have it and why not. The other is personalised to the car, and on because it’s a classic and it fits better than the original (which, I shit thee not, had WTF on it). I give zero shits if people think it’s pretentious or anything else for that. |

I think I’d prefer to spend my money in other ways, but go for it if you want.
Anyone with the number plate BO55 … is an utter tool though. The only consolation is that no matter how much of a twat I think they are, their employees think even worse of them |

"A mate of mine had fck1 and gave it away for free,
What a idiot "
A plate like that is worth a fortune.
I bought one back in 2013 because I was superstitious about the number 13 on my motor. Nothing to do with being pretentious.
I felt like I was being recognised wherever I went though . I don't use it anymore but keep it on retention because its trippled in value since I bought it.
One of the very few things to hold money. |
