I average 3 and a half hours of sleep per night. This has been the same since I was a child and very rarely I sleep longer. It doesnt seem to affect my ability to function the next day much, but I do suffer depression and migraines. I have always wondered if they are linked to the lack of sleep.

What is your average sleep time? Can you not function on less than 8 hours?

Pre-children I wouldn't survive without at least 8 hours unbroken sleep.

Now I pretty much have 5 hours a night and function perfectly fine.

I get 1-3 hours unbroken and sleep for around 4-5 in total each night i think.... Alarm goes off at 7, sometimes earlier.

I get around 5/6 hours but I’m a light sleeper so it’s usually broken sleep. I function fine most of the time but I’d like around 8 hours , wishful thinking when you have kids.

I'm a night owl so rarely get to sleep before 1 or 2am. So I typically only get 5 or 6 hours a night if I'm lucky.

I'm a good 6 to 7 but can sleep so badly (sometimes not at all) and function terribly the next day but with a zest for life. It's weird!

Think I get about 4 or 5 hours of sleep most nights, though last night I didn't sleep at all, life is fun like that sometimes

Eight hours nowadays, longer sometimes. When I was working 6 to 7 hours and when the children were small 3 to 5 hours. If I'm very tired I feel sick.

I average 6, which feels right for me. Maybe slightly more at weekends.

Can get by on less if I need to, but a few nights in a row of that and I have need a big catch up to reset.

When I was doing shift work (4 on 4 off, 2 days 2 nights 12hrs a shift) my sleeping pattern was dogshit and I used to have real bad headaches. Don't get them anywhere near as much now I don't do that job.

The older you get the less sleep does you , they say 8 hrs but people are happy with 6 hours mainly because after work they relax so that relaxation even though they may not count it that part is also relaxing the body and sometimes a person can also fall asleep during such , it's just the body's way of protecting itself.

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

For a lot of my life I slept 9 hours a night and that’s always the goal. I can just about survive on 7 but any less and I feel like a zombie and need to doze

I'm lucky at times to get several hours, otherwise it's only few but still functional. but when I strike lucky in a deep sleep nothing is ever going to wake me (it's rare)

5-6 hours. I wake up multiple times though and I get up stupidly early.

Considering how much I like the bed to myself, I actually sleep better when with someone.

I manage on 6 and have for a very long time now, since kids. But my average is 4-6hrs.

8 Would be a lie in and should probably check my pulse.

3/3.5 hrs of actual sleep. It's been like that for 30 years and never affected my ability to function until this time last year.

I've had all the symptoms of long covid despite never testing positive and combined with lack of sleep means I have zero energy and even less motivation.

Somewhere in Co. Down

I used to sleep really well and get a good 8 hours a night. In the last few years though most nights are broken sleep where I wake up at least 5 times and I'm lucky if I get about 5 hours in total most nights. I wake up feeling as tired as when I went to bed and even on days off like today I'm wide awake between 5.30 am and 6am anyhow.

Definitely need at least 8 hours - unfortunately my job often has me up at 5 so this proves difficult

It's one of the many many reasons I won't have kids, I salute all of you running on empty!
