Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
I've never really enjoyed it - much tastier meat out there. I've treated me and the daughter to a 4 bird roast from Aldi for Xmas so fingers crossed the duck and goose helps the turkey and chicken actually taste of something. |

We don't do turkey. I'm not sure what it will be this year but there's usually a duck, some lamb and/or salmon, the ham and some beef. Although the lobsters in my freezer must be there for a reason. I'll eat what I am given and be grateful as I will be delicious. |

Turkey doesn't taste of anything but the gravy, stuffing and sausages that go with it - waste of oven-time if you ask me!
Aberdeen Angus rib of beef for us |

Love it! There is meats i prefer but as turkey is something i only really tend to have around Xmas it makes up for it. Think were having the one advertised at Morrisons with crackling on the top and pork in the middle i think?! Either way it looks lush! |

You are putting your pigs in beef blankets?"
ha ha ha, i have to travel about 18miles to get my sausages and chipolato's. Its a butchers that sell fat free sausages and work out the syns for you on your slimming world plan.
They taste just like lincolnshire sausage as well |

I have never been keen on Turkey - but think that may have been down to the way it has been cooked. This year I am trying out a new ewcope - Saffron Turkey to see if it changes my mind. Will have a ham on standby in case it ends in tears

"It wouldn't feel like Christmas without turkey and all the trimmings.
It helps to generate the Xmas Atmos. "
This will be your second Christmas turkey and all the trimmings. That's a lot of turkey. |

Google Jamie's Sticky Ham Hock - it's slurpticious - I tried it myself last year and it went down a storm. |

"Love, love, love it. It's my fave dinner of the year. So much so that I bought a turkey that serves 12-14 for 2 of us so there'll be PLENTY of leftovers (and the cats will get some lol)"
We're of the same mind. Getting a turkey that serves 6 for 4 people means getting a tiny little thing and you might as well buy a chicken. I usually stay up Xmas Eve and cook it overnight for four hours - just me, the bird and a couple of bottles of wine (I get to eat the bacon strips that have to come off it halfway through too) |

I have visions of Siren coming down the stairs Christmas morning to find you asleep next to the oven with a bottle of wine in one hand and bacon strips in the other LOL |

I have visions of Wishy as Gollum guarding his "precious" turkey - slightly crazed as he hasn't slept and rocking back and forth. |

Just had Christmas dinner 1 with family, and we had a full on turkey dinner all the trimmings with a rolled breast roast, it was delicious and juicy.
Roll on dinner 2 with my son and his g/f where I will be making the 'alternate' dinner with roast rib of beef....... and stovies with the dripping and scraps of meat for boxing day evening. |

I don't like Sunday dinners that much so Christmas dinner is, for me, just an extension of this.
I'd sooner have a buffet with lots of bits to pick and nibble at.
Not a great fan of turkey either - it needs some stuffing to oomph it up for me |

Love turkey at any time of the year. Best ever is thick slices in a good bread roll with cranberry sauce. Also like a home made turkey and ham pie served with home made chips. I often do a smaller bird for New Years day too. |

I fancy the idea of doing a remake on a Beef Wellington but using turkey and ham instead with a layer of cranberries in the middle. |

"lol if turkeys so great why does no one roast a whole one any other time of year ?
strictly speaking the crane was the traditional xmas bird but got ate to near extinction it was so tasty "
Well we buy local free range birds, and they're blimmin expensive! So good though, and the leftovers are lush. I tend to make a large quantity of pie filling (with leeks, mushrooms etc in a paprika sauce with turkey mixed in). This goes in the freezer. |

I've never tatsed crane and never seen it for sale anywhere but I'd be keen to try it. As for turkey, chicken is our poultry of choice throughout the year so turkey at Xmas makes it that little bit more special. |

We are having turkey on Christmas Eve, as we aren't really fans of it.
Christmas Day we are having salt beef, which I believe is a traditional Jewish meat they have at Hanukkah. Either way, it's bloody lush!!! |
