I use the same mug at home for a brew always tastes Good I go to my kids house drink out of there mugs never the same . Is it all in my head or is it true .

It does, in the same way some goods taste different using cutlery made from different metals or plastic.

That's why certain beer tastes different in certain containers. Belgium beer taste best in a chalice. It's why westmaulle , Delirium tremens , and lacouf is served in chalices not mugs. It strange but certain beer the container matters.
