Would you still go on a holiday if you were sick?

I'm supposed to be going away tomorrow but I've been so sick for the last few days.
I can't breathe properly. I'm full of fatigue. I can't taste or smell anything. I am constantly coughing and my nose is completely blocked up.
Would you still go away?
I'm getting shit from my family because I don't want to go. They say go and enjoy the rest. But it's such a waste of 800 euro when I won't be able to go out anywhere or indulge in my favourite part which is eating aaaaall of the food. I know the best thing to do is reschedule it.
What would you do fabbers?
Please pray for a miraculous recovery.

Depends where it is!
Long flight? Fuccck that!
If you've been ill a fair few days it will pass once there but again, I'd probably not bother if too far away if I was even considering it money wise |

I wouldn’t want to go if ill. Can’t beat your own bed if you’re poorly!
That said, I can also understand the disappointment of not going away.
Whatever you decide, I hope you feel better soon. |

"Travel insurance might not cover you if you knew you were sick before the day of departure if you travelled. "
I was just going to say this. Definitely don't go if you don't have travel insurance. Also lots of countries are doing random temperature checks at airports so just something to consider. |

Tbh your symptoms sound very covid like
Now here is the thing most airport are thermo monitoring passengers so chances are you will travel to the airport and get rejected anyway if your core temperature is up
I recently went away and swear I got got covid from the plane
I was sick as a dog the entire holiday
Flying back arrived at the airport where 4 holiday makers in front of me were turned away and not allowed through to check in
God knows how but it got through
I was ill for 7 weeks in total and spent most of my 2 week holiday in bed and 12 days in bed when I got back
My advice is don’t go
Not only will it ruin your holiday but also other people’s holiday also from being inconsiderate and selfish
That’s my take on it |

If you are going on a plane OP I wouldn't go, you'll risk passing on your bug to a plane full of people and maybe ruin their holiday.
If your illness means you need to be close to a toilet then I wouldn't travel even for a staycation.
But it'd your choice x |

I should have mentioned it's a holiday in Ireland. But it's such a treat for us, we never get to do this kind of thing. And it's 3 days. It's just the thought of going and sitting in a bed for 3 days is pissing me off when I was so excited to eat and explore.
I've definitely not got Covid. My daughter and father in law have the same thing and we have tested multiple times. Tomorrow will be day 6 I think.
I think I'll see how I am tomorrow. If I've got my taste and smell back I'll probably go.
Anyway, I just wanted to see if I was being unreasonable by considering the option of staying home. I'm being made out to be a dick because I said I'll stay. We won't be able to reschedule until next year which is a bit of a bummer.
Thanks for the replies. Rex, if I stay home you can come and massage my big saggy tits. |

If you have any travel insurance, you won't be covered; it is totally irresponsible to head off when you're I'll, esp. if you will be travelling by plane.
Go to bed and look after your personal health; any other action is bizarre. |

There is a bug going round where lots of people are losing taste and smell, think it's covid but testing negative, Almost chest infection like symptoms. I know several people who have said very similar to you in the last couple of weeks. |

I will see how I feel tomorrow morning. If I'm still like this there's not a chance I'll go. But if I can breathe and taste I'll more than likely go.
*fingers crossed* |

For 3 days in cold Ireland I would not go but would tell rest of the family to go without you. I have had a similar virus and its not pleasant. My November has been miserable but after 2 courses of antibiotics I am on the mend. |

It's not like they are even going which is the most annoying thing about them acting like I'm letting them down. They just want rid of me I think.
It's just for a break for me and my partner without our daughter for our anniversary.
I'm glad you're on the mend now Bluebell. I was at the doctors this morning but he said I should be OK in a few days, my tonsils are a bit swollen but to come back if it doesn't clear up and then I can have antibiotics. He's not too worried at the moment.

If there’s a way to get a refund…I’d probably stay. If not, might as well go. You never know maybe the journey to your destination might be the cure you need and if not…your sick in a hotel or somewhere else that isn’t home and they can bring the food to you. Guess it just depends on how sick you’re feeling, but then again you might also be more comfortable at home.
But you certainly shouldn’t be made to feel like a penis for not going. |

I'd rebook it. sorry to say it does sound like the virus that lots of people including my husband have had and even though I hope very much you are better tomorrow most people I know that have had this it's been about 2 weeks I'm sorry to say. |

I'm fairly confident it isn't. My mother in law had it, then my partners brother, then his dad, then my daughter and now me. It's been in our house for about 3 or 4 weeks. I'm sure one of us would have tested positive by now. I could be wrong obviously, but I'm not cancelling just incase it is Covid unless that is confirmed.
I will definitely rebook if I still feel like this tomorrow. But if my nose clears I am probably going. |

It's not the rain that bothers me here, it's the fucking wind! I loathe it. I love the rain. We are staying in a place with a huge private forest. If I'm going I'm looking forward to putting my wellies on for a loooong rainy walk. |

I think the people your going with are vile to give you grief when your not at your best
Shame on them
And I honestly wish you a speedy recovery
BUT !
Getting on a sealed plane with other people knowing you are ill and that can obviously spread is just dam right out of order !!
All you people saying yeah go ! seriously ask yourselves how you would feel laying in your hotel beds sick for the entirety of your several thousand pound holiday because someone on your plane was knowingly ill
This is the type of selfish attitude that brought the world to its knees with the covid pandemic

I was much better on Friday morning so I ended up going. I still have a cough, and a stuffy nose but no fatigue and loss of taste and smell.
I have zero regrets. I'm currently sat in a double jacuzzi bathtub living my best life after a day of exploring and eating delicious food. |

Well that depends
On if you can back out off it or not without lose money
If you can’t then go if not then don’t go
Alternatively though you could go
And bring along a personal assistant that would cuddle and console you and rub your hair and sing soft kitty to you
As they wait on you hand and foot |

OP has explained she has gone away with immediate family, fairly locally (she lives in Ireland) and did not test positive for COVID. I'm sure she would not expose members of the public to COVID or anything else.
Many people on here know how my Grandad came to acquire and die from COVID, so I have very strong views on that sort of thing too. |

If it was Covid I would have cancelled 100% without question. I
I probably am a bit of a cunt because I still went even though I'm sick and maybe whatever it is I do have could cause someone to become seriously ill. If I'm ever sick I wear a mask, wash hands religiously and avoid crowded places. But even so, that doesn't guarantee I might not have passed something on somewhere along my journey.
But fingers crossed it's nothing too contagious! I'm currently testing daily just to make sure it doesn't turn into covid, but I'm fairly confident it won't. |

So as long as it’s not covid it’s fine to go somewhere knowing you’re ill?
Before covid the biggest death rate was flue related illness!
I myself am self employed
I don’t get sick pay when I’m off work I’ll I get nothing!
I also spent my annual holiday that I paid £4K for in a hotel bed ill because of this very reason
Covid flue makes no difference if you can spread it your out of order going anywhere that other people are
As for vulnerable! not just old people and visually disabled people are at risk as I’ve just pointed out
Really really glad you feel better op
Let’s just hope and pray the other passengers you traveled with are still in fine health ah

As far as I’m aware unless they have an amfibious car it’s not possible drive to Ireland as yet
So somewhere on that journey there would of been some sort of public interaction

"I was much better on Friday morning so I ended up going. I still have a cough, and a stuffy nose but no fatigue and loss of taste and smell.
I have zero regrets. I'm currently sat in a double jacuzzi bathtub living my best life after a day of exploring and eating delicious food. "
The steam should clear your nose. For people worrying it's the flu, you wouldn't be able to get out of bed if it were.

I recall the Ireland thread of 5 weeks ago.... it was very chatty on how public transport was a must for OPs' trip.
You came on here to invite comment. Perhaps looking support when unwell which I would happily give.... but you know fab forums so the opinions are always mixed. Can't get annoyed by one's that critique.
It's not shitty to be disappointed in a person for choosing to circulate among however many unknowing members of the public on transport and hotel workers (who service multiple rooms and other residents and take whoknowswhat home to their families).
Especially since you say it has worked it's way through your household for weeks. Even if not Covid, you know it is a very long-lasting, hardtoshake, unpleasant virus and you have played roulette with others. You say you feel better but also say you aren't well, are still coughing and therefore you are still spreading microscopic droplets no matter how careful you TRY to be.
Disappointing for sure.
Hopefully you shake it off soon. |

We did have train tickets booked from Dublin to Athlone to be fair, we booked them last week. But because I felt so rubbish my partners mum drove as it was only an hour away from where we live and I didn't want to be in a small confined space on a busy train.
I've been off work for a week now. I'm expected to go in today and encounter hundreds of people over the space of 3 hours. Do others expect me to skip work and lose out on 2 to 3 weeks worth of pay because I'm unwell? Who will drop and collect my daughter from school if people expect me to isolate?
I originally didn't want to go because I felt absolutely horrendous earlier in the week, so I did want opinions on if I was being unreasonable by wanting to stay. But as I said, on Friday I felt much better which is why I went.
I don't mind people having an opinion, I've even said I'm a bit of a cunt for still going because I could have passed on something somewhere along the line. But the world can't stop turning and people can't stop living their life just because they're feeling under the weather.
You can be disappointed in me. A strangers opinion on something like this doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't regret my choice to go. |

Jeebus. People have colds and life goes on, thankfully ! I think some would prefer China's approach to Covid where people are literally locked in their homes if they have a sniffle.

There’s a nasty chesty lurgy going around which isn’t covid. Maybe try loading up on decongestants / paras and see if you feel better? And do a test. |

Yes on a plane. I think there was 769 passengers on board as it was a jumbo jet. I didn't wear a mask and made sure to lick every seat I walked by just because I could. I even went to the toilet 78 times, asking directions from every second person. And I didn't flush after I had a shit in the toilet, or wash my hands. And when I got to the hotel, I made sure to take my time fingering all the elevator buttons and then jumped in the swimming pool and had a piss. You know how it is. |

I think I've made it more than clear in this thread that I traveled by jumbo plane, made physical contact with thousands of people, purposely left a trail of spit everywhere, tested positive for Covid four times and punched seven elderly vulnerable people in the face. |
