Bizarre items on freecycle

Anybody here use freecycle sites? What is the most bizarre, shocking or just plain grim item that you have ever seen somebody trying to give away? Not just the usual mattresses with nasty looking stains, but things that are genuinely "what the fuck?".

Starter for ten points - two opened and half-used tubes of nipple soreness cream...

I once saw someone selling four 'hospitality tray' KitKats, with Holiday Inn™ stamped on them.

Clearly they had been pilfered. The gall of some people.

It's fucking expensive stuff that!! Bloody epic stuff as well - Lanosin, I think it's called? I'd have bought it, five years ago

Saw some outdoor rotten furniture offered

I'm assuming it was an auto spell fail & was meant to be rattan furniture!

In fairness I’d have had that. It’s really expensive and amazing stuff when it’s needed. I’ve given away a used tube to a friend

Freecycle is still a thing? Huh, who knew! I thought it died out ages ago!

It's incredibly useful.

And occasionally odd.

Some awesome stuff on there.

I picked up about £500 of unused tumbled pavers a guy had left over from doing his drive- just wanted them gone quickly and i had a van. Saved me a fortune while refurbing my house.

Also picked up an oak sideboard, some 100 year old roofing tiles that match mine (which are stupidly expensive new) a rather fantastic solid state hifi amp from the 80's.

Its all about luck and timing...and turning up when you say you will

If you're quick, you can still get your hands on a selection of jars (not nice, fancy jam jars, just literally someone's recycling) or a bunch of old 'Which?' magazines on my local Freegle at the moment!

I have picked up some great items for work through Freecycle, I collected a big Victoria style dolls house with furniture and when the lady found out it was for the Children at work she gave me a pile of books, puzzles along with dolls, dolls clothes and doll buggies. Never seen anything dodgy tbf

But is that not the point I have given lots away that could have gone to land fill and have collected stuff and saved it from land fill.

Probably best find was some old decking made A 6' x 3' cold frame don't know how much it has saved me in plants.

I love Freecycling, I've got rid of some random bits and pieces recently ( hangers, anyone?) and picked up the odd gem too.

Some of the ads are funny tho.

Not freecycle but at a car boot sale 30 years ago. A lady was selling the biggest vibrator I've ever saw. Thing is, I didn't know it was one, as I thought she was selling a Guadeloupe melon:

That was until she picked up one end, leaving the base and inside central portion.

Said she no longer had any use for it, as she introduced her hubby.

Yes, if the items are usable in some way.

But mattresses that look like they've had the previous occupant spontaneously combust on them?

Flat screen TV's where some little angel has fired air rifles at the screen?

Electrical items touted as 'an easy fix' when you know damn well it's right royally fucked and a team from NASA couldn't get it working again?

Yes, a lot of things can be fixed, repurposed or upcycled. But some things need taking to the recycling centre rather than being fobbed off on some poor soul looking for a usable, functional item.

Problem is the cost of fuel, the travel to recycling centres out in the sticks and the fact that some mug will believe someone when they say 'it was working fine last time I used it....'

And of course being free there'll always be someone willing to take it off someone's hands.

the middle of nowhere!

I just had to be nosy, so I went delving......!!

A box of approx 500 toothpaste tube tops.. (don't ask me why!!)

Plenty of rusty washing machines

Empty gin bottles

50 empty jam jars

Some broken pallets

1970s Xmas decorations

A smashed in 1994 Ford fiesta front bumper

I'm going to try advertising the contents of my recycling bin, tbh!!

I've actually put some old (perfectly fine) furniture on Freecycle.

Someone just asked me to deliver it. Wtf!

I love it when they do that.

Even when I'm selling stuff it's always cheap to get shot ASAP

Then someone tries to haggle on something you've put at £5 and asks if you can drop it off 20 miles away.

Today's wtf on my local freecycle - plastic carrier bag containing four old newspapers. Also two empty plastic liquid soap bottles. Basically asking for someone to go round to their house and take out their cardboard and plastics recycling trash...

These types of behaviour and 'regional' traits are all alien to me. We get none of this nonsense in gentrified Måyfåir.

I suppose there's an amputee market.

Makes me wonder how 'safe' it would be though given there's only one up for grabs.

I once gave away a (very shit and knackered) car on Freecycle, back when it was an email based system. I had people hassling me for MONTHS after demanding the car. I quit Freecycle because of it, never used it since.

I quit for similar reasons. Got sick of the ridiculously entitled and expensive WANTED 'requests'.
