I have decided that they don't and will in future make up my own mind. My reason is that about 18 months ago, I was looking for a new mattress, everyone raved about the memory foam mattresses so I bought one. Yes the first night was great, no longer sleeping on a rock hard cheap mattress but as time has gone on, I hate it. I have spent money on buying about 5 new pillows to get the right combination as the two different types of memory ones I tried were too hard and still it hasn't worked. Yes I understand if I could find the right combination, it might help but quite frankly I cannot afford to keep doing that.
I also understand that, the more money one spends, the better quality a mattress/bed is so I am guessing as mine wasn't (bought online) and is supposed to be soft, as that is why I bought it, it isn't, its hard and I hate it and I cannot wait until I can afford a new mattress.
What else I don't quite understand is that someone at work raved about her memory foam mattress and how much she slept better yet has bought topper things for it?? Why? Surely a mattress is quite sufficient?
And this morning is the 4th day I have woken with raging back, neck and shoulder ache, almost every bone in the top of my spine hurts immensely, and a thumping head from tossing and turning all night
So do you prefer to make your own mind up, do you check reviews before you buy, or do you just go out and buy whatever takes your fancy? And do you sometimes live to regret those choices? |

I always like to road test for myself before I buy
Especially anything over the internet ..
I certainly wouldn't buy any furniture from argos, for example.
I'd always go to currys etc for any electricals, and then see what deals are available on the web |

i have a lot of back problems and tried a lot of mattresses - as soon as i got on a memory foam mattress i hated it - hated the huggy feeling - the one i have now has a layer of memory foam in it but on top of normal springs - like a topper but nnot quite as much so - nightmare eh |

I usually do my own due diligence, read up as much as I can via the web, seek advice from those whose opinions I trust, and road/field test when possible, before making my own mind up.

At the begining of the year i bought a memory foam mattress as i was told by both friends, family and shops they were the best thing since sliced bread. So with money in hand i bought one, at first i was pleased with my purchase, but as time has gone on i have woken up with back ache time and again....
So.....im off to buy an new matteress......a good old fashioned sprung one!!!! |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
The majority does not rule at all - it is an influential 10%. If you have 10% support for something then lots of others will follow that lead.
On the mattress/pillow combination front I went for a compromise of my hard orthopaedic mattress with a memory foam topper, a couple of memory foam pillows (of different densities) and another hollow fill pillow (Cudldledown, I think).
I do feel for you - good sleep is vital.
I can't afford this but I had a week in an hotel with a Number Bed. Utterly fabulous as you set the level each night depending on what you need. |

That's the type I have just got and have found it to be just perfect. Sleeping better and no more aches and pains (apart from age related ones lol) |

To be honest, I thought Vincent had lost his marbles when he told me he wanted to buy the firmest sprung mattress he could find.
As someone who likes sleeping in what verges on a "nest" situation, a rock hard straight mattress seemed like my idea of Hell, so I was quite surprised when I hit the pillow and instantly fell into a coma...
I sleep MUCH better over Vincent's then I do with my memory foam mattress; I wake up easier, feel better rested, plus it's better for sex, lol.
Will definitely be changing my mattress after New Year.
