I think you have to miss a complete decade to be sure, 2022 you would need to miss out all the 2010s and have anything from 2009 or older.

You can pretty much use the phrase when something that once was is now gone or changed beyond what it used to be i.e.

Back in the day it was all about Modern Warfare 2 online, Bieber cuts and emo fringes, and Ad free YouTube...

Excellent quote, couldn't agree more, and an ad free YouTube.....oh to wish for the impossible, and the ad's are now even longer and the option to skip ad's is getting less and less.....oh back in the day
