"Hitler's rise to power and WW2 caused by the earlier Wall Steet Crash and the Great Depression.
Cheery stuff. "
But a great example of the butterfly effect, financial policy decisions made in 1920s America with unforseen ramifications on the other side of the world. Not cheery, but very detailed and fascinating stuff. |

That's less than 10 seconds. |

I "summarised" but there's plenty of detail. |

"So you have to speak for 5 minutes on a topic that you find interesting. What topic are you talking about? "
I can be drawn on most things. To engage me though then politics or the abhorrent evils of veganism is a guaranteed winner.

"I once won a public speaking competition where I had to speak about a twig for 5 minutes. "
This is impressive.
You probably made it interesting though. (I mean this as a compliment.)

"I don't know Lorna, I'm not the really type to talk for five minutes on anything.
Yeah but if you had to? "
Sometimes I forget you're ND and I shouldn't tease you.
If I had to?
Hmmm.
Food.
Victorian Literature.
Greek mythology.
Oh wait. I know. I actually sent an almost ten minute voice note on this subject yesterday so I can clearly talk about it. The changing face of horror and its reflection of the zeitgeist.
I'm a riot. |

I did wonder but I am never sure when you are teasing me or not so... |

"Anything geeky really, the problem would be stopping at 5 mins!
I would struggle with the time limit too!
I can tell I've gone too far when the eyes have glazed over "
Me too but I still carry on regardless. |

"The Malabar
Quand y’en a marre, y’a malabar
Whatever happened to Mala Bars?"
Malabar, to me, is a hilltop in Mumbai where corpses of Parsis are dealt with by kites, vultures, crows etc.
There is a house of the same name on the way to Eureka which I have passed thousands of times in over three decades. I passed by Malabar in India on the way to the nearby science museum two decades ago.
I can give a further four minutes talk about it if anyone is remotely interested. |
