You may find the following hard to believe, but I am telling the truth:
I love the cold, and not once during the last 20+ years that I have lived in my home has any form of heating even been used.
Never.
There is a coal-fired back boiler and a system of water-filled radiators, but I have never used it.
The house, and especially the attic, is insulated to a high standard, but the windows are single glazed and no draughts, that is very important.
I am used to being cold and I enjoy it; my total energy bill per quarter, every three months has been less than £60, less than five pounds per week.
This is my contribution to reducing my impact on climate change.
I have four different duvets for different seasons, 2.5tog in summer, 4.0 tog in autumn/spring, 13.5 tog in winter, and a new rare wool duvet that I am currently evaluating.
I also have a selkgab that I have not yet used.
I was born in, and lived in an unheated home for decades; I am used to cold environments |
